  1. Did u like the clear one i was kinda upset over it cause i thought it would look good not like it was hazy. I hope u like them

Yea, I was a little disappointed in the clear, I have had clear anodization done before and it appear to be hit or miss on the shine depending on surface prep and type of anodization.

I'm just going to have it painted to match the denali I think and polish the machined one and clear coated.

  2. Wrongo--- There is a core charge on the wheels because the price of aluminum is up. At my work, we charge everyone 35-50 core charge on all wheels purchased. Check to see if they will take any alum wheel for the SS one, or if it has to be the same one purchased.

Can't find out if it has to be the same wheel, or if it has to be usable, that is why I think gm has no intention on giving the 50 back. He ordered a 22" alloy wheel yesterday for an escalade and it had no core on it. I have the feeling the stock it getting low on the ss wheels and they want to maximize the cash they get out of them.

I have no problem letting them have the rim I have, it is missing a 3 inch long chunk along the rim. If they say no the rim has to be rebuild able I will just sell for scape. I mean the rim weighs 27 pound or something so that's so I might get a 20 spot but would much prefer $50 back.

  3. Bumo for you, same here i need some too! can't find them anywhere

Good luck,I've been looking and I was watching a set of used black one with the painted tire release cover, they looked perfect. I forgot about them they sold for 15 and some change the other day..

I currently have to tape my driver side one taped along the rear to hold it in. Passenger side is loose as well but stays in.

  4. re-read his post.... its a friend from the dealer which means he is getting it at cost plus 10%..

Bingo, he hooks me up every once in a while.

But He could not find out if I return the rim with 3 inches of alum missing from going off road the other day would get me back my $50. Apparently GM does not plan on returning the core charge b/c he can't find out if there is even any criteria for the core charge, he and the parts guy called and no one seems to know. Does it just have to be a SS rim any condition or does it have to be workable? He does not want to take it see If it will be rejected and he either has to eat it or call me up and hit me up for $50 more.

yea there is a set of used silvers that were then chromed for $1,520 shipped right now but I would rather pay $380 for one new painted factory rim, but at $430 it's ouch

And as to the argument of keeping it unique that is not really a valid argument and does not hold up, if that was their plan why is there not a core on the skirts, fenders, cladding and all other ss unique parts.

  5. There have been several people here as of lately reporting over 100k on the original brakes. Once brakes get this old, you can plan on replacing the rotors as well......

I was one of those but it must have jinxed myself. I had my driver front caliper fail the other day. The seal failed letting loose when I was braking causing me to swerve into a yard under hard braking, I pulled all the pads and the caliper that failed for rebuilding and bought new pads and ordered a re-build kit.

I'm just trying to patch it until the new ZO6 brake brackets are up for sale, but I measured the old pads and there was about 1/4 " left and the new ones have about 9/16". So they still had alittle more than 1/2 material and about 1/8" till it hit the indicator.

Fireman, You are right about the rotors, they are shredded. There is about 1/16" to 1/8 grove on both sided from the sweep of the pad to where it has not touched. 1/8 inch would more than probably put it out of spec for re-surfacing them.

  6. Well I'm doing regular maintainceon the 04SSS at 116997 miles;Mobil1 oil change,,grease front end and I check the brakes :wtf:

I keep service records like an old woman keeps grocery coupons  and I've never put brake pads on this truck,,bought it new

Their fine,,,fronts are 1/4 thick rears are 1/8 thick  I'll change rotors B4 pads :uhoh:

Anyone else have this problem?

Is this normal for an SSS ?

I've owned Chevy and GMC pick ups all my life and always get 20 to 30,000 miles on pads,, :wtf:

    :chevy: SS

I got a bit more than 120,000 or so when my fronts 2001 z-71 extended but I have notice the stopping distance getting a lot longer.
