You got lucky they didn't no what they were doing . i have jimmijammer plates installed in my truck so they can't pushin the lock or go in under the handle . you should think about getting them so the next time someone that does no what there doing doesn't get it ..........
So what are jimmjammer plates? How expensive do they run? Havent had anyone try to steal her, but hey I like all the precautions I can take.

Well, I think first off you yourself should decide wether you want to mod the truck,not let your friend talk you into doing it. If your happy with the way it is then leave it an throw that in the bank incase something happens to go wrong. But if you wanna then start with a tune either wheatley or Blackbear (have heard great reviews from both) and a trans shift kit with maybe a vette servo and maybe some long tube headers.Save the cam for if your really serious about modding the truck b.c. depending on the cam you may need more work that goes along with the cam install. but thats just my two cents.

Welcome!
Southern Comfort usually did big conversion vans like Matt stated, they also did silverados and a few avalanches. Mainly responsible for adding different colors and accents to the exterior and making the interior very comfy. As far as a build number your local chevy dealership might be able to help you with that. Love the colors on the truck one very nice lookin vmax!
