  1. I did let it down before tightening everything, but there is a chance i overtightened. Me and a buddy cranked on them with quite a large breaker bar for the last couple rotations. I'll loosen them up when i get home today and see what happens. Do you know if there is torque specs for those bolts?

  2. So i put my McGaughy's 2"drop shackles in yesterday with the torsion drop in the front. No new keys, just drop the stockers down. I went for a drive around the block to re-check height, and make sure everything tightend down afterwards and everything is good and even. When leaving my house this morning for work theres a lot of moans and groans coming from the rear suspension. It doesnt sound like a shock, but just the leaf springs making noise when i go over and bump or rough road. I got to work and hopped up on the bumper and gave the ole heeve ho up and down a couple times and its a very noticeable noise. Now ive heard people talking about how the new shackles will "settle", so is this anything i should worry about? i looked under the truck, brackets and all hardware look good, nothing loose, so am i good?

  3. So got my truck back a day before the long to trip to Carlisle. The verdict was that the retaining clip that holds the preload for the bearing had snapped...which the nut that holds the bearing in had loosened itself all the way and was rubbing on my ring and pinion. Needless to say is scored the crap out of it. He said that there was 7 or 8 large chunks of metal that fell out when he tore it apart. Luckily, i dont have to replace the ring and pinion. He replaced the bearings, axle seals, spider gears, he fabricated a new retaining clip, and a couple other things. The noise is completely gone, and there is no shaking at highway speeds now. So im happy.

  4. Hey guys, it was great to meet you all, and i wish i could have had more of a chance to get to know you guys but i was feeling a little under the weather all weekend. I actually ended up leaving sunday morning around 8 am for the 10 HOUR drive home (I hate traffic). I look forward to the Lebanon valley meet though and look forward to getting to know some of you guys better. Thanks again to everyone for being very welcoming, i had a great time. P.s. Dan good luck with the brakes man. Just think a bright blue rotor will be a good souvenir for the trip.

  5. Soo the update is, the truck is going to the shop tonight and my front end is being rebuilt this weekend. Bearings, seals, spider gears, and a few other things. its a bummer, but the guy who's doing it is someone i know and is a pretty reputable differential service mechanic. He does all the diff. work for the shop that i bring all of my vehicles to, and 6 or 7 around the area. He's doing everything for 800 so i guess i can't complain too much. Plus he's doing it as a side job over the weekend so i'll have the truck back by Monday. I'll let you know how it comes out.

  7. Hey guys,

So next weekend i will dropping off my stock SS rims to be sandblasted and powdercoated black. There is 4 or 5 shops in the area that do powdercoating, but the one i'm taking them to came highly recommended from a friend of mine that own's a body shop. He is charging me $400 for the rims, and is actually coming in to do them on a weekend for me because i work monday through friday. I didnt do much asking around for pricing because this seemed very reasonable to me, and the guy seems like a good guy. Just wondering if there's anyone on here who's had powdercoating done on their rims, and if you guys think this is a good price.

  8. Okay, so....i'll put gas in my truck....im guessing more than once on the ride. If you see someone pushing a black SS into the fairgrounds, with a sign in the windshield that says i should have listened, then you can say i told you so. Haha. I'll have everything else covered. I just wanted to make sure i didnt leave anything out. Also bib not necessary. considering the gf is making the trip with me i have to do my best to control the drooling. However maybe a "hey uhhh why dont you go get us something to eat" will be in order at that time.
