  1. I used the Tow/Haul feature. On flat, open highway, the tranny would finally lock in at almost 75. You should be just fine towing a car on a trailer. I would still use the Tow/Haul feature and leave it in Drive. Let us know how much your fuel mileage average drops. I towed a small 6x12' trailer with a garden tractor on it as well. My gas mileage would drop fron 16.5 to about 14. And with LSR Mike, get a brake controller. That was probably the best investment in the whole package. Even with the "Titanic" in tow, I could stop the entire rig just with the trailer brakes.
  2. And to think GM reported record profits, yet still fell short of the analysts predictions. http://video.msnbc.msn.com/nightly-news/46420760/#null
  3. http://autotrader.au...&standard=false HAHA, I can't believe I found it on a lot down in the Chicago area. This WAS my truck..... How do I know??? by the tonneau cover, the bed mat, the scratches in the bed, the Husky plastic floor mats and the BRAND NEW tires! The old LSs were pretty wore out when I traded the truck in. The lot must have bought it from South Oak Dodge or something. I'm considering calling the dealer and findong out how much he paid for it just for giggles and grins. Not so new guy,,,,, Remember, this is a 1SS, your truck is a 2SS. I was expecting a lot more in trade, but I needed to get rid of the truck even though it was a load of fun to drive and carve corners with.
  4. I only ran super. Figure a .10 cent difference/gallon and a 25 gallon tank would be a whopping $2.50 MAXIMUM savings. Less of a savings if you're not even running it down to "low fuel".
  5. I owed 14,700. I got 14,500 in trade. I periodically check http://www.southoakdodge.com and see if they listed it on the net, but I haven't seen it. It may have sold already. I asked the dealer what they were going to try to get out of it, and he said, "somewhere in the mid- $16k range."
  6. I towed a 30' travel trailer that weighed in at a whopping 8,300# loaded. When set up correctly, my SS did ok pulling the trailer, weight distribution hitch, brake controller etc. I just could not justify the cost of 8MPG and towing it long distances was out of the question. Recommended tongue weight is 10% of the loaded trailer. The SS already has a trans oil cooler. Because of this, I traded my truck in for a 2500 Ram/Cummins.
  7. Here's a link to the dealer's site. It's the White 2500 Big Horn with the funny decals on the side. I get a kick out of the graphics cuz it actually matches my TT. http://southoak.com/inventory/details.aspx?s=u&id=NLIL0057.1/DD11014B&d=Dodge&m=Ram 2500&y=2007
  8. Yup, you're very correct. I haven't taken any shots of the truck since like May of '11. A Black 1SS that is in good condition with 45k on it looks just like any other one. :-s. And I might be trading it in at Matteson Dodge just east of I57 on US 30. I might even keep it and trade off the wife's car. She likey da SS. Click on my username if you want a picture.
  9. Ok, what the heck, I'll give my two pennies worth here. I rarely have used the search box and I had found a lot, maybe too much information on different "upgrades" I've been a member here for just over a year. I browse the site a lot more than I would post on it. My post count would reveal that. Now, shortly after I bought my truck, the wife and I purchased a 30' travel trailer. Now I know all the gearheads here are looking for more HP to get down the strip faster, or off the stoplights faster and that's all fine and good. I would've liked to have made some performance upgrades as well. We want to tow our trailer long distance style, and let me tell you, after towing around SE and central Wi. getting 8mpg really sucks the $$$ needed to travel state to state. Bear in mind the fact that I had no idea we were going to buy a titanic sized trailer when I bought my SS. There are plenty of mods I could have done to my truck to make it a more economical towing machine, but I'm not about to spent hundreds of dollars to try to squeeze out one or two MPG. When I have looked at some of the articles here, I would get information overload. Even as far as adding a CAI and an open exhaust. But then I need a custom tune. So how soon does one get a custom tune after strarting to mod the truck?? And then there are the tranny upgrades, the Corvette servo and such. I have a brother in law that likes to race and he told me that a rule of thumb is that if you want to shave seconds from your 1/4 mile time, it will cost about $1000/second. That includes parts, and electronic tuning. So I posted an ad here, http://www.silveradoss.com/forums/topic/74181-trading-off-my-05-1ss/ to let the membership know that there MIGHT be a truck available east of Midway Airport in Chicago soon. I will add to the ad if in fact I end up with a diesel truck this weekend. Will I end my membership here??? probably, only because I won't be able to contribute any experiences that have a direct regard to these neat trucks. That's my story and I'm stickin to it.
  10. There's a strong possibility that I will be trading off my truck this weekend. The dealer is Kingdom Chevy. They are located on W66th and S Western Ave. in Chicago. It has 45,000 miles on it and it will have the old, stock Eagle LS tires on it, unless they change them. The truck is in VGC, Onyx Black, all stock, no mods. I added a soft tonneau cover, bed mat and a tailgate liner when I bought it a year ago. I'm going to try to get 18k in trade. The reason I'm trading is that I have to tow a 30' travel trailer. I would like to tow across country and the best truck to handle the job is a diesel. The SS can tow it just fine, I just can't justify 8mpg when towing. PM me if there's interest in it.
  11. There's a guy running around my area, SE Wi, that has a cap on his Black SS. It's ugly IMHO. I have a soft tonneau cover, easy to remove and makes the truck look bad ass.
  12. My bone stock, 44,000 mile, 2wd 05 ss is averaging 15.3 on the DIC. If I do burnouts at every stop light and around every corner, it will drop into the 14 range. When I pull my 30' travel trailer, it drops to 8mpg. I'm thinking about upgrading to a diesel.

    I got my ss a year ago come 12/ 27. I'm 45. I've been a Chevy/GM guy all my life.
  14. I went and bought a set of 17" rims only because the size matched the spare. I had some Hankooks mounted on them for winter tires as well. I'll get out with a camera soon and snap some photos. I wire brushed the rims and applied some Rust-Oleum primer where the rust was. I had a partial can of Duplicolor DE-1613 Ceramic engine enamel left over from a different job to do one rim with. I painted the others with Krylon. We'll see how each holds up. Talk about an awesome look too. I won't call it ghetto by any means. I call it "Street stalker" style. I'm thinking about getting the stock, plastic center caps, but I think I'm just going to paint the hubs.
  15. I had an '82 CBX. Man, that bike was awesome. I owned it for about five years. I have a 1980 Gold Wing Interstate as my DD. My advice to the new rider?? Start small to mid size and keep it cheep. Just in case you dent it and ding it up, it won't make you too angry.
