It's neither, it's a pushrod engine. The cam is right above the crankshaft. matt* has a good how to on it(see his below). I like the tsp 224, myself.
is it the same for the 6.0 as for it is for the 5.3?

I dont know a whole lot about heavily engine technical things. I have an 04 silverado SS and i have two questions: 1st: are our SS'S DOHC or single and second what cam should I order? Like I said i dont know a whole lot, im just learning now and I hear about LS1 cams, theres a place called slowhawk performance which offers custom LSX cams and then i heard about comp cams I just dont know where to start. Im just looking for more power gains as usual and was wondering what the best ones are. thanks a lot

i support this 100% people said they dont make banks for the SSS but thats bullshit they make it and man does it sound good. I have it and the gains are some of the best out there as well. great product all around and the sound is truly killer

I have a banks monster exhaust. it sounds really deep, agressive and throaty, not whiney like some of the others can sound. also, i gained 22hp and 20 lb ft of torque so the gains were impressive. good luck!

alright well i know it was not on your list but i recommend banks. get the monster exhaust system, it exits behind the rear passenger wheel and it has a huge (4") tip. sounds badass and gets great gains. good luck!

And 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0 use alot of the same parts, all the trucks have pretty much the same guts, I've bought stuff for 4x4 1500hd because they didn't have an SS option

Hey guys I have an 04 SS and im interested in a few things and mainly where to find them. 1st-- Where the fake scoops are kind of under the front bumper where real fog lights can go I want to put in real (HID) fog lights and I cant find them anywhere. 2nd-- a different hood scoop like a ram air or something. 3rd-- chrome billet grille and chrome bowtie. 4th-- and intimidator SS rear spolier. My main problem is that the SS is such an oddball model and if i go on jeggs or aa or something like that i can never tell if its going to be the right fit. what do you guys do to find these things? just put in a regular 04 silvy as your fit and it will fit? i figure that will be fine since its nothing performance wise so thers no 5.3 or 6.0 difference. thanks for the help guys

alright theres so much fkin feedback on these things i dnt need any more convincing im getting a tune. as soon as i can sell my programmer ill be ordering a tune. i think ill be going with blackbear but i dont know for sure. which is cheaper blackbear or wheatley?

hey guys i have a diablo sport programmer and everyones telling me to get a custom tune instead. before i sell my programmer i want to find out a little bit more about the tunes...why are they so much better than the programmers? if i get a tune it would be a blackbear/ wheatley tune and i was wondering from ppl with bb/wheatley tunes what exactly you get from the tune. on the wheatley thing he asks what u want from the tune im looking for just more power and speed in general. thanks for your help!

there will be a night and day difference between a custom PCM tune and your handheld...handheld programmers are garbage and if i remember correctly, Wheatley did a back to back comparison between a handheld tuner and his own custom tune and the handheld tuner actually LOST hp over the stock tune. Contact Zippy, Wheatley or BB for your tuning needs and i promise you wont be disappointed!
alright will do. i know some of the tuners lock in the tune like nelson do any of those guys do that? and which one do u recommend BB or wheatley?

yeah im thinking about it. what exactly could i get from a tune if i get one from blackbear of wheatley? my programmer gets my some extra hp will the tune do that or just take off top speed limiter? Cause i can change shift points with the handheld too

you will kill it. i drove them for about a year unloading dodge,ford, and Chevy trucks at a trainyard. and dodges where by far the slowest.

Hey fellas i have a 2004 silverado SS. I've put a banks cat-back exhaust on, K&N intake and i know im gonna get sht for this but i really dont want to hear about it cause thats not what im asking about here but a diablo sport programmer. one of my friends has a 2009 dodge ram 1500 with the 5.7L Hemi and he has a magnaflow exhaust (cant even hear it under my truck haha) and programmer tune and k&n intake. how do u think we match up? he keeps saying his truck would smoke mine. what do u think?

out of the sts turbocharging kit, the vortech supercharger and the kenne bell supercharger which would make the SS go the fastest and is the most reliable?
looking for a kit. i have an exhaust, cai and tune but i want either a turbocharger or supercharger. i dont want a race truck but i want my ss to pull 12's in the quarter mile or faster

tuners do custom mail order tunes, you dont have to have it done in person. i can promise you that if you went from the diablo to a custom tune from one of the vendors here you would feel a huge gain...just saying
have you had a programmer before the custom tune on your truck? just because im really happy with the gain I got out of mine and i know everyone goes custom tune but i feel like i gained at least 20-30hp. my 0-60time was cut by .4 s from stock with just the chip from diablo sport
just wondering, what kind of hp gains do u get from a custom tune, is it more than that and can they change shift points?

i know everyone will disagree with me and ill get bashed but here it goes: i was looking for the same thing about a month ago and there wernt any custom tunes from wheatley or blackbear around my area anytime soon and so i was looking for a programmer. everyone on here will tell you that they are pieces of shit. i ordered a diablo sport predator tuner and im not saying its better than a custom tune but just saying that i am happy with the gain. very noticeable difference and i get around 17mpg when i load in the economy tune (city) and almost 19 highway. again, not saying theyre better everyone here seems to be happy with custom tunes but if u happen to not be able to get to a tuning session i definitely recommend the diablo sport predator tuner
-i should also mention that i got mine for $120 through a buddy of mine who has a speed shop so i got major discount (vs $300) which was better for me than driving 3 hrs to pay for a $250 tune

I heard that and emailed the guy because they werent anywhere on the internet and he gave me a phone # and said that its a great exhaust and its a lot deeper than it sounds and i already liked it. and he wasnt kidding...it is much deeper the camera on that vid doesnt do it justice one bit, at an idle its equally loud to a corsa on an SS except sounds much deeper ( not bashing corsa at all here i like that one too its a personal preference). im gonna try and get a good camera soon and when i do ill post an exhaust clip to this thread. huge hp gain as well.

just thought id post this and tell everyone looking for mods that the banks exhaust is awesome. 17hp gain and 19ft/tqe gain. it sounds amazing, if youre looking for deep tough and throaty while loud but not obnoxiously loud then this is the right exhaust. im so happy with this and thought id pass on my knowledge about it to anyone wanting a nice exhaust. I've gotton so many complements on the sound as it sounds really mean. i would definitely recommend this exhaust to anyone. I know only one person who has put a banks exhaust on and hopefully we get more because its a great pipe!
