  1. Excellent ... sounds like the drivers side cab corner will be easiest... I appreciate the help....
  2. Hi Guys a friend of mine got me a nice double din touchscreen for me to go in the silverado. I had commented that I liked his and he got me the same one for my birthday. I love the gesture but truth is it is a Xtron no name brand ebay head unit. I am not big into sound systems so it doesnt bother me much I just know it will be a little more work to get up and running. I also picked up a back up camera and was curious where the best spot is to bring the RCA cables into the cab? I was thinking of routing them to the engine bay and coming through the firewall but I am not sure if there is a good place in the back of the cab I might be missing. Also what wire do I tap so the head unit knows the truck is in reverse? This head unit is also TV ready and was curious if it was worth the hassle an additional cost? I know there will be a lot of opinions on this head unit and I would appreciate it if you reserve comment unless it is real world experience with this head unit itself. I am fully aware that you get what you pay for and there is tons better to be had.
  3. Thanks for the help guys!!! Very friendly forum compared to others...
  4. I just got the truck 2 days ago so I havent done anything but fill it up with premium... I have an appointment to get the front and rear dif fluid changed as well as the transfer case. I will have them dignose my problem and if its not going to break the bank I will have them fix it. I know if it is a wheel bearing, cv joint, tie rod or ball joint it wont be covered under the extended warranty. I will have them make note of the the oil coming out of the front diff. If its nasty and metallic hopefully they will let me know and or deal with it under the warranty... I am only doing the dealer thing here to get things noted in case I have issues down the road. Makes it a bit easier if I have a failure if they gave it a clean bill of health... Playing the game....Playing the game...
  5. Hi Dave... I would agree however it only happens in reverse.. Wouldnt a CV joint make that noise going forward and regardless of which way you turn?No ABS light and things look spotless under there... I dont think this thing ever saw rain or snow...
  6. All right I jacked up the front end and did a visual and everything looked good. I tried to wiggle the tire left to right to check tie tods and it seemed tight however are you suppossed to be able and turn the wheels left to right fairly effortlessly? As if someone was actually turning the steering wheel only I was doing it effortlessly at the wheel. Never had a vehicle that was that loose. Wheel/hub bearing sounds like it may be the culprit. Are they a pita to do on these or pretty straight forward?
  7. Diff whine is generally all the time when power is being applied and would go away when coasting. Intermittent whine when turning, in my limited experience with AWD 4wd, is par for the course since the diff has alot to manage when turning and moving at slower speeds.
  8. Yeah from what I have gathered that is very common on these. But my symptoms don't really fit with the front diff whine. I am wondering if it may be a steering knuckle or something like that..
  9. Hi fellas, I just bought a 2003 SSS AWD with only 48K on the odometer. When I test drove it I put it through its paces and it was solid all the way around with no front end whine at all. This was 2 days ago and this morning when I got in it and backed out of my garage I am getting a rather obnoxious grinding noise. It is only when I am backing up with steering postured to the right. It starts about a half turn before full lock and gets worse the further I turn it. Backing up with the steering to the left it is absolutey silent and normal. From the research I have done on this site before buying the vehicle the front diff usually seems to be the culprit. I searched for trucks with similar symptoms and I couldnt find any simialr cases. So who else has had this issue and what did it end up being? Now given this is a 2003 and I am a repeat customer at this dealership I talked them in to including a 3 yr 36k mile extended warranty so this should be covered. Fingers crossed as I know how that goes. However I like to be somewhat knowledgeable befor going into the dealership. I am going to schedule an appointment to have the front and rear diff fluid changed and the transfer case and have them check this out at the same time. It is 100% repeatable and there is no way they wont be able to hear it... I am new to the board but not forums....I am a regular on LS1GTO.com and have a 04 supercharged that I converted to run e85. So I know a thing or two but not about AWD... Thanks in advnace, Nick
