    Towing Question

Ended up getting a 23ft, 4200 dry, 360 on the hitch. Hitchweight seems a little low, but that's what the specs said. Mind you there's two propane tanks and a battery sitting on the tongue too, and there will be more cargo in the front end of the trailer once we load it up so it's actually a fair bit more. Got a brake controller and a weight distribution hitch. No anti-sway as of yet, I don't have the tools to properly install that part right now. Anyway, the little amount I've driven since picking it up, no sway issues. Only thing I've noticed is a chugging feeling. Maybe not chugging, but when I get up to speed it feels like I'm driving a boat, going over waves. One friend of mine that's done a little bit of towing says that's normal. And I wouldn't know, this is the first time I've ever towed anything. I wasn't expecting it to feel like I'm just driving my truck normally, I just expected it to be smoother. Correct me if I'm wrong, but a weight distribution hitch is designed specifically to help minimize this issue right? Would tightening up the bars/shortening the chains on the WDH help with this? Is it possible to go too tight here? Anything else I should look into? Or is it completely normal and I just need to get used to it?

    Towing Question

New question... We decided we want to get a bit bigger trailer so we won't be worried about upgrading in a year or two. Now looking at ones that are around 4-4500 dryweight, 500 on the hitch. Would I want weight distibution and sway control for that?

    Towing Question

Thanks for the replies everyone. RonBoySS... The trailers I'm looking at are 19-20 feet long. Not taking it on long trips, just around southern Alberta. The wind can pick up along some of the highways but the longest of my trips are under 3 hours. There might be the very odd trip we take that's longer, but for the most part a 2 hour trip is as long as it gets, if not less.
  4. Tried searching and didn't find an answer to this particular question. I have an 04 SS, completely stock. I've never towed anything but I'm going to be picking up a small travel trailer, dry weight around 2700 lbs, 300 lbs on the hitch. What I'm wondering is if a weight distribution hitch is necessary to tow a small trailer like this. One sales guy went as far as saying I would need a distribution hitch with anti-sway. Like I said, I've never towed anything before so I don't know. But part of me is thinking all of that might be overkill for towing such a small trailer. So should I get the weight distribution hitch? Should I get one with anti-sway? If not, at what weight should you start considering these things? Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  5. Thanks everyone. I still haven't decided on anything for sure as I still have lots of research ahead of me. But all your feedback is greatly appreciated. Now more questions... Say I go with the Volant for example, I think it said to clean and re-oil the filter every 10 000 miles. I'm guessing that's not too hard to learn (could be wrong) but how often should the filter be completely replaced? Also does anyone know the best place(s) to get all this stuff from? I live in Calgary. I've never bought anything for my truck so I have no idea where to go. Well not things like CAIs and exhaust systems anyway. I was thinking about checking out Mopac Auto Supply here in town, it's relatively close and it looks like they carry all the brands I'm looking at. Anyone in the area have any experience with them or know of any other places I should check out? Or stay away from for that matter?
  6. My 04 is completely stock. I've been told CAI and exhaust followed by a tune are a good start. I'll start with CAI. I was originally thinking AEM brute force but now I'm kind of intrigued by the Volant that has the box and optional front bumper "SS scoop". What exactly does the box do? And would the "SS scoop" thing actually make any difference or is it just a gimmick? Also I live in Calgary so high altitude, dry climate, lots of snow and occasional brutal cold snaps in the winter (-25C at the moment) - does any of that play a factor or does it not matter? (Edit: Forgot about K&N. If I should go that way, 57 or 77?) On to exhaust. Thinking Corsa Sport or Magnaflow. Based on the prices I've checked out the Corsa appears to be a bit more money. Is there much of a difference performance wise? And is there much of a difference in sound between them? I wouldn't base my decision just on that but I figure it's something to consider. I'll worry about getting a tune as soon as I have these upgrades done. Based on the threads I've read people that have these various products seem pretty happy with them so I can't imagine I wouldn't be. But with that said I don't have my heart set on any of the above and being brand new to all this I have no brand biases or anything so I'm really open to anything. Any and all feedback is appreciated.
  7. I play it all the time. I'd love to see that. I imagine if they ever did add it they would probably go with the Intimidator edition. So it wouldn't be my truck but close enough.
  8. Thanks for the advice everyone. Is there a particular website that's best to order from in Canada? Or any good places in Calgary to pick stuff up?
  9. Hey everyone. I've been creeping on the boards here for a little while and figured it's about time to join and start posting. I have an 04 SS, black, completely stock. Got it a little over two years ago. I'm not mechanically inclined at all but I've learned a little from reading posts on here and using google. I'm looking at getting into upgrading some things. Now I know there's various sections for everything, but I'm looking for advice on where to start. Anyway, I'm potentially thinking (but in no way committed to) cold air intake and exhaust as a starting point. Yay or nay? I'm also interested in improving the handling/reducing body roll of the truck - would this be a sway bar thing or should I be looking into shocks or something else? Or both? I'm open to any and all advice because I really don't know anything about this stuff. And unfortunately it seems to be like a lot of other things in life - the more you learn, the more you realize you don't know. Once I have an idea of where to start with everything I'll post all future questions in the appropriate sections. And here's my truck (couple years ago). Still looks the same though.
  10. I'm also new on here and from Calgary. I have an 04 and my dash cluster has quit working. Well, some of it - Tachometer and fuel gauge still seem to work fine. It started to go last year (speed was off) then eventually just quit working all together. I'm not mechanically inclined at all so fixing/replacing it myself is not an option. I had it looked at once and was told there was a bulletin from GM out about it so they said call the dealer. Did that and was told there are no recalls or notices for my truck. I've now read about the class action lawsuit in the US and all that, but can't really find anything specific to Canada. Just wondering if anyone else in Canada has dealt with this and if the dealer will replace it or am I on my own?
