  1. Thanks for the Greetings guys! Still have the SS.... 2003 with a scant 16,000 miles! Running like a top. If any of you remember I posted a problem with a farting noise in the air cond. almost a year ago.

I took it to a different Dealership and they fixed it for my Extended Warranty co pay (deductible) of 50.00! It was a noisy actuator or diverter valve in the plenum box. Pulled the dash off, fixed it put it back together and out the door in just under three hours.

Three Cheers for Mark Heitz Chevrolet in Norman, OK! That's where I'm buying my next vehicle!

Have a good un' you other B-day boys.... er uh, Men.

    Cheers!

    David

  2. I can't remember if it's under the distributor... I get the feeling they did that on the previous generation of engines... I think on the TBI it's below one of the manifolds, i'm leaning towards passenger side... But that might be the knock sensor...

I'm starting to confuse myself... Check below (as is underneath vertically) the manifolds... I'm pretty sure that's where they are.

Of course google is a pretty good place to check too.

Thanks for the reply, I asked the guys at the parts store, and one said by the distributor, the other said it's above the oil filter on the drivers side of the block.

I bought the 25.00 sending unit, and crawled under the truck. Not by the oil filter, so I go under the hood. It is on the back of the block just above the bell housing of the transmission, under the distributor pointed at an angle towards the passenger side seat. Now if I can only figure out how to get to it! I think I may need the 15.00 socket and extension they sell to get it out, it's an awkward reach and an unusual size. Kind of like a locking lugnut! Man, GM sure makes it tough on a fat boy!

    Thanks again for the input!

  3. Hey Guys,

I was just wondering if anyone knew where the oil pressure sending unit is located on a 1991 C1500 with the 5.7 TBI motor?

They are usually at the back of the block near the drivers side cylinder head kind of under the distributor but I've never seen mine, so I thought I'd check first. My oil pressure gauge has been all over the place from pegged out to nothing for a couple of years now, and I'm sick of it. Unit is only 20.00 so I'm diggin in.

    Appreciate the replies... if any!

  4. Sometimes mine sounds like the squirrel fan inside the housing is rubbing or something, other times it sounds like a air sucking noise through a rubber diaphragm. I can't think of a means to describe it and to relate how it really sounds would have to try to do a sound clip of it.

All I know is, it makes the truck sound like a P.O.S. and is very embarassing to say the least. I have to get this fixed or I'll probably end up KILLING something!

    :shakehead::banghead: :banghead:

  5. I've got a buddy living in Lander, Wyoming and he has sent me some killer stream and river shots not to mention the mountains! I got my Canon 30D for Christmas and haven't really broken it in yet. I work as a Pressman for a small circulation Daily Newspaper (The Anadarko Daily News, family owned... wifes family that is) and use it for work a bit but really am just waiting for spring foliage to sprout to get after it.

The Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge is just 35 minutes southwest of me so I'll be running down there a bunch this spring with the camera.

I'm seriously thinking about dumping some cash on a 70-200 f/2.8L IS when tax refunds start burning a whole in my checkbook! Just need to convince myself I won't get divorced in the process! lol..

Happy Shooting! I'll try to remember to share some pics this year!

    Cheers!

  6. Mine does this too on very cold mornings until the truck warms up to about 60. I have only noticed it during the winter months. I think it tries to split the air to the Defrost and Floor vents. It sounds very timed like you are saying and continues for about 5-10 minutes.

P.S. very cold in my mind is anything below 10 to -20 degrees. I noticed this the worst last week when the outside thermo on the mirror said -21

    Hey Barney,

Thanks for the reply. I'm in SouthWestern Oklahoma and it's in the upper 70's here today and the SS is making the noise so I don't think it's temp related. For me, it's mainly when I'm using the AC that it does it. But what gets me is it continues when you turn off the switch! It started it early last year and has done it intermittently ever since.

Maybe some more guys will sound off shortly!

    See ya!

  7. DessertSS has the best advice here to me. Initial cost is high and the payback time is long. Spend your money a quality dual fuel (gas/electric) with a high SEER rating and choose a company with a good history of above normal customer satisfaction.

I've got a YORK gas furnace and A/C and it sucks. I've had nothing but trouble with the heater since it was new and I would not recommend them.

Look into a Carrier or Trane. I personally don't care for heat pumps, but it just based on others I've heard about. I guess I'm old school.

Bottom line, buy an efficient system and take care of it, you'll be happier now the line.

  8. Hey Guys,

My 2003 SS has around 15,000 miles on the clock (it's my weekend funtime family wagon truckster) and I've heard about every complaint that the average SS owner has reported here but have only experienced the steering wheel clunk, front diff. growl on right hand sweepers, and the loose pitman arm, which resulted in the replacement of my steering gear box. And of course the tailgate supports cables.

One I am currently experiencing that I've not heard about here is the crazy noises coming from the general area of the blower fan housing. It's a very rhytmic noise, like something spinning, but not really. I've had the stealership replace the blower fan (or at least they told me they did) and was told it fixed the problem. The next day I heard it again.

It comes and goes, but now it's with me almost everyday I drive the truck. Sometimes worse than others and it even does it for a while after you switch off all HVAC functions.

My truck is out of the original GM warranty on years, but as mentioned earlier it only has 15K on it. I did buy a Pinnacle 7 year 70,000 mile extended warranty at time of purchase (1995.00) which I'm wishing I would have passed on.

I can't get anywhere at the dealership, they don't know what the problem is and I need help. To me, the noise sounds like it's related to the diverter plenum that shifts the airflow to vent/defroster etc... It might be some sort of a vacuum leak or something but it can get really loud at times so I'm not sure.

I do remember someone reporting a gurgling sound, but that's not the case with mine.

I'm all out of ideas and haven't seen many familiar faces on the site lately, but I'm hoping anyone with the same problem will respond about my issue.

I would really appreciate some forum wide input on the matter.

Are there any old timers from the first year still around? Or have most of them swapped off the SS and gone on with normal life?

    Thanks for the help! :happysad:

  9. I've got a 2001 Kawasaki ZRX1200R with a whopping 2300 miles on it. November of 2002 I did a low side at 35 mph and I tumbled side over side for 80 some odd feet and the bike slid on it's side for 141 feet. Just cosmetic damage on the bike. Fixed it up better than new and put on a Muzzy 4 into 1 header and Dyno Jet jet kit with a K&N stock type air filter. 136.6 RWHP, Wheelies at will in 1st, 2nd, 3rd gears with a lighter rider, and is a great smooth running powerful and torquey bike... just don't ride it much since the get off. It's seating postion is a bit cramped for me with the Corbin seat on it, but I've got the stock seat and exhaust in storage. I need a Harley to putt putt on!

Tried to sell it through the internet, but nobody came up with the cash.

I'll have to find a pic to post later on....

  10. I really like the durability of the spray in liners, but every one I've seen has faded out in as little in 1 year unless you have a tonneau cover or shell. I personally have a bed rug, which looks and feels great, but they also fade around the edges if left in direct sunlight for long periods, but they don't look chalky like spray in liners do.

The good thing about the bed rug is that you can buy another one and just replace it if it gets looking really crappy. A spray in liner you would have to take a grinder to and that could get really ugly really fast if you weren't careful.

Sharp truck and sharp liner for now though, Congrats! :happysad:

  11. I stringer with 1/8" to 5/32" 5-P fill with 6010 and cap usually with 3/32" 7018 or 7024, always uphill on the cap.

Always use a blind (welders curtain) wear 100% cotton shirt with leathers or at least nomex sleeves and my plain jane Jackson hood with picture window (3" x 5") American Optical #12 lens. It makes a pretty blue arc behind the glass that is easy to follow the puddle.

Learned to MIG on a Miller CP-300, which was great, but prefer the Lincoln Dual Process powerplant I used last job.

I second the motion on using care around pets and unsuspecting onlookers! Burned eyes are painfull!

  12. Yes! That's my point exactly.... they certify you do do their job. All your testing and inspection just's shows them you are qualified. The place I worked was more strict on their employees than a surgeon performing open heart surgery.

    Merry Christmas...!

  13. also to let you know i toto have welding cert, its just a piece of god damn paper it dont mean shit unless you can go out on the job and accually make it work.

all right now you're eating too much red meat or something, don't get so worked up .... you really ought to get a certificate in spelling...! Having a certificate and being certified and carrying bonded insurance on your work is different too, geez!

    :jester::jester:

  14. Welding is easy if you learn the basics and practice. Don't develop bad habits.... do it by the book. Like mentioned earlier by someone that dragging (or pulling) the electrode on a SMAW (shielded metal arc welding) or stick welder for short, burns in deeper is pure hogwash. Drag a rod and push a rod at the same position and amp range and see which one has the better penetration.

Any weld, I repeat ANY WELD is only as good as it's weakest point, and there are several types of electrodes, all of which have a welding position which is denoted in the numbers E6010, E6011, E6013, E 7018 etc... not all rods can run in the same positons. You're not supposed to run beads downhill on certain rods because of the risk of slag inclusion, and porosity in the weld. Both will flunk you out of a certification test if you don't believe me go try to test and the minute you try to run 7018 or low hydrogen rod down hill they'll come and turn off your machine and flunk you. I've seen it.

This is why I say do it by the book, get educated and practice. If you're building a fence do it however, but the type of welding I did was pressure vessel (boiler, and high pressure steam and fluid handling lines) welding which you have to pass a extensive testing process. My welds were subjected to X-Ray inspection etc... serious shit.

I am certified in black pipe stick or MIG (wirefed) and alloy rated in TIG and would recommend a MIG over about any machine for versatility. TIG is nice, but slow and not very convenient for a shop or garage welder. Buy a AC/DC stick welder for outdoor use, and if you've got the money a good Lincoln or Miller dual process powerplant for indoor jobs and you'll have the benefits of MIG for assembly and TIG for precision and strength, such as roll cages, thinwalled tubing etc...

I really like the Lincoln PowerMig 300 @ around 2800.00 for a one welder shop. Can't beat it.

It's a good hobby, you can make some money at it, and you can save a lot of money doing your own welding.... just learn it right the first time.

  15. To all of you old or new to the site, May you all have a very Wonderful and Especially Merry Christmas this year..... travel safely and remember to share the spirit with those less fortunate.

    Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays

Let's see some pics of the gift haul this year...... I've been "modless" on my SS for almost a year now... kinda got the itch to see what's popular now -a- days....

    Cheers!

  16. Yippee!

My Sooners pulled it out against the Cowboys, and since the Horns lost to A&M (tee-hee-hee) The Sooners will get their shot at the Big 12 Championship, and they deserve it, they are really turning it on at the end of their season.

With all the probs they survived this year it's a real spirit lifter.... Bob Stoops is one helluva coach!

I know a lot of folks don't care for Stoops or his Sooners, but ya gotta respect talent and coaching ability. Hell the Zebras even worked against them this year! But we

    DOMINATED ! :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

OK Haters.... lets here it! lol...

  17. Anyone watch Rockstar Supernova?

I watched every episode and was very curious to how there first album would turn out. I bought it the other day and it is real good. I was first unsure about their choice on Lucas, but his voice actually sounds good on the album.

I saw every show too, but haven't kept up with them afterward.... I also watched every pathetic episode of SuperGroup, the one with Sebastian Bach, Evan Seinfeld, Ted Nugent and Scott Ian. Went through the entire process only to miss their final performance as a complete band! Did anyone see it, and how did they do?

I couldn't believe how much of a pretty boy Bach was, my GOD... he wined more than my X wife!

I like all of the guys, but jeez!

    :dunno:
