Alright, getting on a rant here. Buckle up. I've used craftsman tools most of my life. They're solid, work for me, done what I need them to. The same is to be said about their toolboxes. I'm a nascar fan, more specifically, Jimmie Johnson. Lowe's happens to be Jimmie's sponsor. It's only proper that Lowe's is where I do most of my home improvement shopping.
A few years back Lowe's started offering an over the top, stainless steel, gaudy toolbox that's bigger than most need but it catches your eye. Okay it got me. Enough to pull me away from my craftsman tools ways. Nobody needs a stereo in a toolbox but it sure does sound neat. At any rate, I got to the point where my tools needed to be a bit more organized than the few boxes I have going right now, so I started to seriously look at this toolbox.
$1898. Not cheap, an investment, if you will. I saved and had some excess money so I started looking pretty seriously at them. NLR was the only one that had one in stock. I certainly wouldn't believe many stores would keep them on hand just due to the cost. I went in every day for the last week to contemplate the purchase before I made the decision to buy.
Today I made that decision to buy. Nice, crisp $100 bills. I tell them I need that toolbox and to bring it around while my buddy brings the trailer around. I pay for it and only assume since it was brand new, that I had little to worry about damage to it. They forklift it on the trailer and I start to do a quick inspection and discover a bit of damage. Okay, cool. no biggie. Obviously a few things here and there aren't a big deal but a handle was peeled back, and a pretty significant dent on the body of the box.
I asked to speak to a manager so try and remedy the situation and still salvage the sale. A customer service rep comes to the truck and sees the damage, asks if I want to return it. Well, I wasn't truly interested in returning it as I've saved for so long, but it certainly would put my mind at ease to get a little off of the box because of the damage. Since I am military and got a 10% discount they acted offended that I would suggest such a thing. An additional $50 off the box was offered which in my mind wasn't enough considering the damage. I opted to return the box and regroup. I was told that the box would have to be offloaded before the return could be processed. So I wait while the forklift loads 30 bags of quikrete into the bed of another customer before they offload the box.
At this point I'm getting frustrated because I expected a brand new toolbox with no issues, and I'm waiting for a forklift to even get my money back. Not once did customer service offer to order a new box, have it delivered to my house, anything. I'm still very surprised that things went the way they did. My money doesn't come easy, and for such a large ticket item in my mind, I figured they would do more to save the sale.
I've e-mailed their customer service corporate but I honestly don't expect to hear anything back. Guess I should have just stuck with Craftsman and not spent the extra money on such an extravagant box.
