  1. Hey so i did most of the led conversions on all of the switches and cluster etc on my Silverado and Suburban, they look awesome, i did something different for the headlight switch i mounted an led on the end of the original bulb, i just cute the bulb off, and it worked. all went well until i went to do the heater which i shouldn't have done as it turned to shit, as you will see in the photos pulling off the turn dials for the temp control damaged the slidding track. don't know if ill be able to fix this or not. im trying to find a way to fix it as don't want to buy a new heater control

  2. That one is a tough one.

The bulb size is T-1 1/4

I haven't found a direct LED replacement yet for it.

I'm still trying to figure out what to do.

The problem I ran into is that the old bulb melted the slot the bulb goes into on the headlight switch housing and I'm having a hard time fitting an LED in there.

It is either too big a diameter or the LED hits.

I'm ordering a couple new incandescent T1 1/4 bulbs and going to pull the bulb out and solder the LED in and then probably have to use a drill bit to clean up where the plastic melted.

The headlight switch and heater controls are proving more of a pain than the instrument panel was.

I might have a good at one of my headlight switches over the weekend. I found the cluster pretty simple to do. I’ll keep you updated on my headlight switch then

  3. They fit in the steering wheel switches, the cargo light switch and the heater controls, but not the headlight switch.

The heater controls are a royal pain, and you have to be careful not to overheat the circuit board, as you can burn the printed circuit.

I cut the leads shorter and bent them and then soldered. (see picture)

The headlight switch takes a T1-1/4 bulb with a turn lock connector.

Also, on the heater controls, you will want to have white LEDs for the red and blue around the knobs, because if you use blue bulbs, you will end up with almost white and not so red. Looks awful.

And FYI, a hook pick helps a lot putting the steering wheel switches back in and at that, you will probably be cussing up a storm. Or at least I was.

I'd like to catch the engineer who thought those were a good idea.

A warning though, they are bright. So, if you do the steering wheel, you will probably have to turn them down quite a bit.

Hey so i got all my lights done in al l the cluster and wheel etc, but having trouble finding the correct one for the headlight switch, could you help me with the links for the led i need to buy for that. thanks

  4. LED are polar sensitive.

The ones I had, have a long lead and short lead and the long lead was positive. I used a test light, plugged in the circuit board into my truck, turned the marker lights on and checked which side was power and marked it with a sharpie marker.

These were the LEDs I went with. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B011E8T9G2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And this is the stepper motors I went with. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KWRHVM6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You need a decent solder iron. I use "Sta-Brite" silver solder and has a liquid flux that you can use a toothpick to apply it exactly where you need it, and it is a little easier to work with.

I will be installing the LEDs on my heater controls and headlight switch today.

Between the Instrument panel, heater controls, headlight switch, I will probably use most of two 20 packs of LEDs.

    Youtube tutorial

i might buy some of these also, the ones i brought re mounted to a base so it makes them hard to mount, have you replaced the bulbs for leds in the steering wheel controls also but i see those are tiny, have you done them, do you know which ones are best for them?

  5. Dunno. It's good except for passenger corner is broken right along the line where the corner piece comes up from the step pad. I think someone that does bumper cover repair could fix it (plastic welding) but it would still take some work to make it 100%; this is the one that was on my truck when I bought it hit in the right rear which damaged the bumper and bedside.

The lower step pad on it is in great shape. The upper one has a fist-sized gouged area near where the cover broke. I've got a much nicer top step pad that just has a couple tiny screw holes in it and some of the clip tabs on the bottom are missing so you'd have to use double-stick.

I know it sounds like a pile of ass but could be made into a decent setup for somebody if they were willing to put in a little work. The tricky part is paying shipping on it due to size.

    Richard

Have you got any photos of the damage. Thanks

  6. As title says im looking for a factory rear bumper cover in Black would be even better, i don't need any of the kick panels just the plastic cover it self and maybe if anyone has changed out there exhaust i just need the pipe from the back of the muffler to the tail pipe as mine is dented. hope someone can help. and shipping to 93313 would be awesome as well. thanks

  7. I know OP was planning on using the truck to make his RCSB clone but hopefully when he gets it he'll see how much work you put in, the overall condition of the truck, and use his RCSB's bed to fix the SS so it can live again. Doesn't help you out kaze but I think we'd all be happy to see it continue on instead of being a parts truck.

been a while since i have put an update up. plans did change and i didnt end up shipping the truck out to New Zealand, the single cab made it but i have the SS in storage for the time being i have recently been over to the US and finally got to see the SS for the first time, man there has been a lot of damge done from the salvage yard, the exhaust is toast, the forks have gone right through the tail pipe, i had to swap out the transfer case as it was making a huge crunching noise, i had to replace one of the rear struts as a forklift had damaged one of them as well, plus i had to sort out the alarm as the guys that had stollen it had made a huge mess of it, but im happy where its at now just need to get my self a new rear bumper cover and have the front one repaired and painted and she will be an awesome truck again here is a picture i took of her in a parking lot before i left

  8. I thought i would get some help from my peeps on this forum, i want to get the sunroof working again in the single cab truck i brought, but i don't know what brand it is and what i need to get it working again, i take it that it had a motor on it or maybe its a manual opening one i don't know. any help would be great. Cheers guys

  9. Time for an update, since so much has changed since my last update, the container arrived and i was informed before it got here, that the single cab is here, but the SS is still in america, there wasn't enough room to fit it so its still in the US. which is kind of bad but also good. I have been doing some thinking since then about what i should do, and iv'e thought maybe i might buy the parts needed to get the single cab back to its former glory and get it on the road back here in NZ then maybe keep the SS in america as my truck to use while i am visiting, since i have a place i can store it. its a bit of a pain its not here, but also it gives me time to think about this more, the single cab really isn't as bad as i first thought which is why i have changed my mind a bit as it has the bones to be a good truck again and seems a waste to part it out, more to come again soon i work things out, i know Erick will probabaly want to buy the truck back but its still in California and plus i might get attached to it haha, and i haven't even seen it yet. more updates to come as i work everything out.

  10.

Wow. Hate to say it but comparing to your original auction pic at the beginning of this thread, that front bumper damage appears to have been done during shipping. :(

    Richard

Damn that's a bummer how much damage was done just in the shipping process.

Hitch is gone, bumper ducts are jacked, and the scratches on the side, what a damn shame.

    i don't know if that was done in shipping or not either way it has to be repaired, im having second thoughts about doing this clone conversion and looking at different ways i can get the truck road legal here in New Zealand, we have a thing called a LHD permit it has to meet certain things here is the list of thing i would have to meet ;

A left-hand drive vehicle must be owned as a collector’s item (as determined by the Transport Agency), and:

**be of historic value (evidence of historical significance must be supplied with this application)

    OR

**The vehicle’s make, model and submodel has never been manufactured in right-hand drive form (evidence from the manufacturer must be supplied with this application), and the vehicle meets three of the following four criteria:

1- The vehicle is and was manufactured as a two-door coupe or convertible (evidence must be supplied with this application or the application will not proceed)

2- The vehicle is and was manufactured as a high performance vehicle (evidence must be supplied with this application or the application will not proceed)

3- The vehicle’s make, model and sub-model has been (or was) manufactured in annual volumes of 20,000 units or less (evidence must be supplied with this    application or the application will not proceed)

4- The vehicle (or its make, model and sub-model is identified as being a collector’s item in a commercially produced motoring publication (a copy of the relevant article must be supplied with this application or the application will not proceed)

I think that the truck would meet 3 of these, its not going to meet the first one as its not a coupe lol but the other 3 it should fit into.

    On another note im trying to find SS parts which are easier said than done so if anybody out there knows of a rear bumper and maybe the rear 2 claddings for sale hit me up, i do have a buddies house in California i can have bits sent to if anyone has anything for sale. I did find this bumper on ebay but i think its over priced for what it is;

Yeah shes pretty damn low. Was originally a 4/5 drop, then did a 5/5, and last I had it I raised it up about an inch and a half.

This photoshoot was before her paintjob as well, you know how black can be, so I wanted like a fresh start and went and did all the exterior mods I wanted, including paint, wing, grills, lights. Only thing missing was the hood, but I couldn't find anyone willing to make me the hood I wanted.

Like I said, the week she was stolen, she was getting the blower installed, alongside headers, exhaust, stall, and cam. I tend to pile up parts and do it all at once. After they stole it I had a lot of stuff I had to get rid of.

Im just glad she wasn't turned into a clone, Im a big despiser of clones made from original SS parts lol.

im going to have to work out what i can do once these trucks arrive here, it would be a shame to strip out the ss its just a real hard thing to decide, if it wasn't for our dumb laws with registering the truck left hand drive i would keep the truck as is, and i don't really want to convert it to RHD as thats another 20k plus my time. i might be able to install the cab and bed onto an older chassis then it would come under a build and as long as i put it on a 20 year or older chassis i can get it left hand drive, crazy laws but thats the way it is here, that is my only reason for doing this custom project, i might look out for a 1996 chassis that i could use the chassis and bits to make it onto that, its risky doing that as well since really it wont be a 1996 on top but under neath it would still be. anyway i've got a lot of thinking to do

    Old photoshoot of her.

Thanks for the photos i didn't even realise the truck was that low, the photos from the insurance auction were taken from a different angle, looks like such an awesome truck and i cant wait to get it, im so sorry it as stolen from you i hope you buy yourself another one, having something stolen from you must suck im always worried about it even here in New Zealand, thats why i've installed cameras around my house since i have a few nice vehicles here. great to see you have taken good care of the truck pity the person that stole it didn't, never mind ill decide when it gets here what im going to do with the truck.

  13.

Wow...that's crazy. So did it get recovered out of town somewhere and you just took the insurance buyout on it? I'm totally confused.

    Richard

i think the truck was recovered but the cops must of never let him know that it had been found, its just to bad that they didn't notice it earlier, as its pretty had to bring the truck back now when its not even on the same land, i would hate to have any of my rides stollen they are our pride and joys

  14. Yo I need you to contact me asap! That black SS is my Silverado SS!! It was stolen 6 months ago! It is identical! And I need to know where it's at! Please I need to know.

If you're willing to sell I'll buy that truck for any price. Anyone that followed me on this site knows I did everything right to that truck. That thing was my pride and joy, that paint job wasn't even a month old.

Hey Man As you know from talking on the phone earlier on today, the truck is in a container on its way to New Zealand so the timing is pretty bad really, it does look like an awesome truck, im just going to have to wait and see how bad the damage is when it arrives here, then ill see what im going to do with it. seems a shame to pull apart the truck but is as nice as it is, but since our dumb laws here in NZ it cant be road legal the way it is, it would have to be converted to right hand drive, and im not going down that road again, we will stay in contact and i will let you know if there is anything in the truck of yours once it arrives here.
