Check that rocker are to retainer clearance since you couldnt do it on the engine stand..
nothing like some stray aluminum in the pan...

Yea, good stuff costs... my 427 i had (back in the day) had Manley severe duty Stainless exhausts and Ti- Intakes and buzzed 8-8200 and never had a valve failure.. with aluminum rods and .085 in/valve clearance..
(oh, and GOOD valve springs)

What would cause valve stems to mushroom? A hammer?
usually this only happens under valve float or when a rocker arm fails.
OR, cheap valves, too much seat pressure...?
now its time for lash caps!!!
I dont know about these newer motors..
But the lash cap or bad a$$ manley valves fixed that problem on old SBC heads

I guess you're not worried about breaking it in.

Breaking engines in is for people that don't set correct tolerances....
Top Fuel engines get a good break in, tear-down and assembled in 75 minutes
and a couple of throttle whips, then right on the track...
