  1. No lights, no kicks or other idle oddness. Guess I'm good. Thanks again!
  2. Fireman, Thanks for the fast responses, really appreciate it! My idle is pretty smooth, no shaking that I can tell. Heading to run an errand right now, so I'll be sure to pay close attention. What is a CEL? Thanks again.
  3. Fireman31, No, due to the angle of the plug-end boot on the MSD wires, I couldn't see a way in which I would be able to reuse the metal heat shields. Was I suppose to? Thanks
  4. Hi All, My 04 SS is at about 102K miles, so I decided to replace the plugs and wires. After researching here, I decided to go with MSD wires (32829) and AC Delco plugs (41-110). Here are my questions... 1) The MSD wires have a long boot on the plug end. I noticed that I was having a difficult time getting the wire on the plug when it was installed in the engine. If I held a plug is my hand, and *spun*, or twisted the wire as I pushed the plug onto it, I was able to get a solid *click*. However, when putting the wires onto installed plugs, I never (not once) got a *click* on the plug end (note that I did get 2 clicks on the dist end when connecting it). I would repeatedly pull the wire off, and could def feel that the plug was in the clamp during removal (i would usually feel the *pop* of the plug coming out of the clip), but not during insertion. So, my question is, how can I know for sure I have a good solid connection (did anyone else noticed this about their MSD wires?) 2) I've started the truck and driven around the block after installing the plugs and wires. Idle seems about as smooth as before, maybe a few less *bumps* in the idle, but a tad rougher overall (barely noticeable, I probably wouldn't notice any of this if I wasn't looking for it). No engine lights, etc. Would the dummy lights (Check Engine, etc.) come on if I had a cylinder that wasn't firing due to a bad plug / wire / connection? Also, if I had a cylinder that was missing, is it something that you would REALLY be able to notice at idle, or is it something you could easily miss? Thanks all!!
  5. Smoothdime, I have the same question. NGK website says that the tr5ix is our Iridium plug, but everyone seems to say that we should be running the 55. What, if anything, did you eventually find out about this? thx
  6. I just got a reply from Tbyrne on Hawk pads for the SSS. They said they do not carry the Hawk HPS pads for the SSS because Hawk said there are too many combinations and after several failed attempts they have stopped trying. I've also read here that the Hawk pads aren't great until they heat up, making them not so good for a daily driver like me. Any other suggestions on quality pads that won't mess up my new PowerSlotPlus rotors?
  7. Has anyone determined if Hawk has pads for the 2004? On all vendor sites, as well as the Hawk Performance site, it skips from 2003 to 2005. Any ideas?
  8. I answered my own question on the rear rotors. PowerSlot says the stock needs to be a MIN of 18.5mm. Me must read it more better closer time after this..... Fireman31 - Yeah, I'm sure you're right. But that isn't really saying much, considering how craptastic those stock brakes are. I've priced out the stock size from PowerSlot vs. the PowerSlot Plus, and it looks like I'm only paying an extra $45 / per rotor, so what the heck. I'll give it a shot, though I wonder if the larger space and better heat dissipation will ever be noticable for a rush-hour bumper to bumper warrior like me...
  9. Another question.... For the rear PowerSlot Plus rotors, PowerSlow speficies that the rotors will only work on truck with a factory rear rotor thickness of 18.5mm. Can anyone tell me if this is the thickness of the 04 SSS rotors? Had anyone put the PowerSlot Plus on the rear???? Thanks!
  10. Thanks for the tips guys. I'm thinking the following... - PowerSlot Plus (14") front and rear (though I can't find the rear for sale anywhere!) - Hawk HPS pads - Earl's Hyperfirm Braided lines From what I read, this setup is pretty popular, and for ~$1K it will be money well spent. Here is hoping!
  11. I just ordered this kit for my 04 SSS. Hope I don't run into a problem, because I am very non-mechcanically inclined.....
  12. Well, I just got a call from the dealer. My 2004 Silverado SS has always had mediocre at best braking. I have ~65K miles on the truck, and needed new tires, so I told the shop to check the brakes. They say that the rear rotors are so far gone that resurfacing is not an option. So, I've had it. I'm getting everything new. Now, I need to decide what to get. Obviously, I need new rear rotors. I'll do the front at the same time. Would you go with a complete upgrade to calipers, rotors, and pads? Just rotors and pads? Will the extra money spent on new calipers (from Wilwood, Baer, or Brembo) be worth it compared to just a rotor / pad upgrade? I'm leaning toward new rotors and pads. Which manufacturer? I have a hard time locating rotors for the rear on a 2004. Any ideas? Oh, and should I get braided lines? What are the pros / cons on braided lines? Thank you so much for your input.
