  1. My Dealer gave me the 'GM Connection Package' when i bought the truck. It came with instructions on installing the brake controller, as well as the fuse that I needed to install. I'll take a look tomorrow, and see if I can find the instruction package again.

One other thing... The trailer lights (inside lights) work even if the ignition is NOT on. Good.... and Bad. Don't forget to shut the lights off in the trailer.

  2. Looks like it'd work well. I've never seen those.

I have the one with the two flags, you simply line up the flag with the one on the hitch, and you're all set. I like it, because I can see it above my bed cover. Once, I'm hitched up, I just pull off the flags, and away I go.

  3. My folks ordered their computer with this, and I thought it would be cool.  It was jumpy, almost as if the computer couldn't keep up.  I thought I'd lower the quality of the video, but it was already as low as it could go.

The TV tuner works great, but the DVR is slow at best.  I bought an external TV tuner from Best Buy, and it too works good for the TV portion, but not so hot for the recording.  I use the TV tuner with the notebook when we go camping.

ok, so from what I understand the TV tuner is ok, but the DVR sucks. HMM, I guess for some reason I'm kinda liking the TV tuner option. My parents are building a lakehouse for the summer and weekends now and I'm pretty sure they wont be getting cable or satellite there. That's actually one of the reasons I'm getting the laptop because all I have now is my desktop.

Exactly... The TV tuner works excellent. But i wouldn't buy it for the DVR capabilities.

  4. In my experience, I'd call the owner. Usually, if anyone cares what the dealership is doing, the owner is the guy to talk to. I did once, and now when I walk in, everyone comes a runnin'. One guy brings me coffee, one guy takes the crap out of my truck and throws it in the rental.

When service has been done, the truck is washed, vacuumed, and brought to the front door for me.

  6. Yes that is me, the first person to bring to my attention [" I was surprised how big it was, I didn't know what to expect"] was my mother. I couldn't believe I said that, then I thought "The guys will get a kick out of that." I can't believe that people across the country see me for a second or two in a commercia,l it's surreal. I can do simple mechanic work, I have helped my dad my entire life work on tractor and trailers, motorcycles, old cars, trucks, heavy equipment.

Yes I live back in the woods, big time!

    Marry me.

  7. The dealer did the RIGHT thing, in my book. I hate taking my truck in for service, and they give you something that you would NEVER look at buying. Like I'm gonna trade my truck in on a strippo 5.3L, with cloth seating, etc.

Why wouldn't you give the customer something that maybe they'd like, and trade up to???

  8. :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead: i figured that was the way it is :banghead:  :banghead: boy do i feel stupid

Hey, don't feel stupid. This stuff happens EVERY day. Rarely have I ever taken my truck in for service, and end up walking out the door with less money than I planned on spending.

I've started to do many of my service items right here in my garage. I changed my oil last night, for instance. I don't do it often, but I'm going to start. Any time I've ever taken my vehicle in, it usually has grease or oil on the venders, or oil spilling on the exhaust, (due to lack of clean up.) etc.

And, there is a certain satisfaction in doing a job like this at home. Not necessarily the money you save, but knowing it was done correctly. Another good example of this: The dealership must put the oil filter on with an impact wrench. :D I had to physically destroy the thing to get it off.

  9. One thing I learned when loading my 6,000 lb tractor....

Set the parking brake, as the rear pops off the ground EASILY.

I even put the WD hitch from the camper on it to help with the load. It is quite a bit of load for this truck. Power wise no problem, but frame has quite a bit more flex than the 3/4 ton.

For any REAL distance, I won't use the SS. It moves around on the road too much.
