  1. I have the black chrome version of your grill and had the crappy gray stock grill behind and it looked very bad. Painted the stock grill black yesterday and it turned out very nice. Used the Rustoleum black plastic paint. I'll post a pic once I get the Street Scene grill back on.

I just bought the cladding without brackets from Posi12Bolt and after seeing this picture I'm a bit worried. Is the orange part a template you made or it that part of the bracket? And the long silver horizontal part is that part of the brackets as well?

Where can I get this stuff from without the cladding? I might be able to fabricate the brackets is I had full scale drawings but this project is starting to look a little more daunting than I had planned on.

  3. 1 year old FIPK air intake kit for a Chevy Silverado 2004 (and other years) 5.3L engine.

My truck was in a front end collision and when they truck was repaired the body shop ordered a brand new kit even though the original kit only had a bent metal air box housing which could have been bent back. If you have seen these kits you'll know this is no problem and literally needs only be bent back.

It includes all parts including the important tube and filter.

Cost almost $300 brand new. Will sell for $150 OBO

  4. Body guy called yesterday. The bumper was not out far enough. Guess they forgot a spacer or something so my 22's fit fine now.

The fan housing is bigger than came stock in '04, guess there was a slight re-design for better air flow, so that's why the notch.

They re-did the grill and it now looks right and is paint matched.

Now they have to re-do the flames on the hood cause some muffed the powder before it dried and looked bad in one spot so I should have it back by Wednesday or Thursday. Thanks for the help guys. Citing this site made my body guy not even hesitate to get things right since it's a conversion not a straight repair to factory.

Now I think I need to lower it...and find a frickin' 20" cheep spare. I'm tired of monkeying with the that when I swap out wheels for snow and rough weather in the mountains.

  5. It did have some minor frame damage on the front passenger side frame rail where it connected to the bumper but that was repaired. (the attached picture shows the drivers side end of the frame rail as an illustration of what the passenger side one looks like)

They had it up on the frame machine for a couple of days with the lasers and everything checking it out and both my insurance guy and body shop guys were crawling over every inch of the frame for days making sure there was nothing else.

Called my body guy tonight and I'm taking it back in tomorrow. Made a long list of every little thing cause it should be perfect after almost $12,000 in repairs!

  6. Ok, here are some pics.

With the wheel turned the 20's are millimeters away from the front bumper and the 22's hit the second I turn the wheel even slightly.

The center piece seems to be off to me. Sticks out too far and sits closer to the bottom than the top.

There is still bumper cover going back under the lights and grill. On other SS's does the cover end even with the outer edges of the lights etc? This difference may account for hitting the 22's.

  7. I finally got my truck back after almost 3 months in the shop and overall it looks great but I have a problem; my 22's won't fit! It looks to me like they installed the front bumper too far back because my snow wheels that are on 20's barely fit. Could I get some close up straight on shots from the sides of some one's stock SS with 22's? I'd like to see the clearance between the bumper and the tire as well as how far out the bumper should be sticking out front.

Something that has me equally worried is that I installed a K&N FIPK air intake on it before and it fit without cutting the tube shorter or notching out the fan shroud to make it fit. The shop had to take a pretty big notch out of the shroud this time so I'm wondering what else could be wrong with the repairs.

Lastly they used a chromed stock piece that runs through the middle of the grill where the emblem attaches and it is supposed to be paint matched correct?

    Thanks guys,

    Chris

  8. just to get my 20s to fit i had to move the bumper forward like 1/2 " on both sides.

Just talked to my body guy after reading your posts and he says that the 20's are clearing no problem now and the 22's should be ok. Was a little stressed after seeing that.

Thanks guys. Truck is looking awesome but damnit its been over 2 months and I want my baby back!

  9. My body shop still has my truck and last week I went in to check out the progress. Since I have a standard 2004 Silverado and am having the front end changed over to the OEM SS front end I expect a few issues but there is almost no clearance between the bumper and my 20" snow wheels and tires. They don't even think they wheels can turn without rubbing. WTF? There is almost no difference between the stock and the SS when it comes to this area. The side front quarter panel/fender/whatever you call it is the same for an SS as it is for the Silverado so why is the bumper so much farther back and how am I going to get my daily driver 22's back on?

Do you guys have to modify something to get bigger wheels to fit? I didn't when I put on 22's before the conversion.

  10. First time I bled my brakes I did a terrible job and finally took it to "The Brake Team" near my house. They did it for $50 in about 10 minutes.

Next time I spent the $25 on speed bleeder valves and about $40 on one of the cheaper vacuum bleeder kits and did it myself and got it done in about 20 minutes with no problems.

  11. When I changed my brakes and wheels I started getting the service brake system alarm. Finally got it regularly enough I took it in to the dealer. They said it was my speed sensors on the transmission. Just as they were about to pull both sensors the regional GM guy walked through service and seeing the mods on my truck told them stop now he changed too much and its out of warranty. My service guy has helped me for years and made sure it only showed up in that dealer's system and not GM's nation wide.

He told me to watch the speedometer for fluctuations and the alarm going off when that happens. Sure enough when I've been on the road a long time, am going up hill, and hit the gas the needle would flutter back & forth about 10 mph and then the alarm would go off.

He said its not a big deal but I could pull the sensors and replace them myself but I've got no clue which one, where it is, etc.

  12. Thanks for all the help guys. I found an SS to look at this weekend and although it would be nice to get all the cladding the wrecking yard didn't have all of them but at $100 a piece would not have been bad had they all been there. I've now got the rear pieces and the entire bumper assembly on their way but he didn't have the bottom of the tailgate cladding so I'm trying to find that. If anyone knows where I can score that piece I'd appreciate it.

Thanks again and I'll post pics when I finally get my damned truck back. Been almost two months!
