  1. Ok well the truck has two codes that are showing up on is Cylinder 4 missfire and and Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (bank 2 Right side)

    4 new o2 sensers

    New fuel fitlter

    new plugs wire

    New cap and rotor

    new cats

all the thing that have been replace to try to fix this problem!

It only missfire at high speeds so Im lost I cant adjust the timing because its controled by the pcm so could be the plugs are gao wrong but Im lost!

    Thanks for any help!

    Bad coil?

  2. No, higher octane fuel by definition burns slower and cooler than lower-octane fuel; this allows engines to be operated with more ignition advance and/or compression ratio (higher efficiency) but there will be more carbon buildup as a trade-off.

ohhhh. so thats where the seafoam comes in.

see i had a mechanic awhile back tell me that its pointless to use a "fuel system cleaner". to just buy the higher octane (91) at the pump. and it would be the equivlant to running a fuel system cleaner every oil change...glad to find out he was wrong now, instead of 10 years from now.

btw, im currently using 89 octane...and i'll just run some fuel cleaner in there every oil change. which i'll be using a full synthetic oil. (mobil1 or castrol) so that will be every 7500mi.

sound good? im keeping this truck, so i want it to last me. i've never had a car longer than a year, so i'm not to "big" on longtivety (sp). and my dad is the same way....chip off the ole block i guess. ha!

If you run the Lucas every oil change and change oil on a regular "3-4k" basis your SS will not let you down due to engine failure. The LQ9 is no different than any other small block chevy when it come to longivity. Take care of it and it will go the distance. I put 150k on a 2.2L chevy S10 with 3k oil changes of Mobil1, she never sneezed or leaked or gave any sign of going south. If that pitiful little motor could take my abuse for that long and not smoke then I have faith that my LQ9 and I will grow old together without any major problems. I laugh when I think of the 283 my dad had in a 63 Impala that hit 350000 miles without the vavle covers ever being off. It lasted that long with regular oil changes and that was before synthectic. Treat it like a member of the family, it won't let you down. If the red lablel Castrol German is at your local Autozone then get it, if not grab the good old Mobil 1 and no worries.

  3. just bought this pickup used with 70k miles on the clock. '03 ss sivlerado.

ok just got back from chevy dealership. (got too curious) they said that these pickups have a timing chain that does not need to be replaced until it breaks...

and that i should do the following:

    flush tranny $120

    fuel induction flush $120

fuel filter $51 (this one im sure i can do since its not in the fuel tank right? havent got under there yet.)

also what kind of fuel do you guys run in ur ss? just got it and have had to fill up once and used 89 (plus). its hard to find 93 in our state so i cant use that. 91 (super) is readily available. but im just curious.

and what about oil? im a big castrol fan. but in my last high performance veh. i ran mobil-1 full synthetic. do u guys use regular, syntec blend, or full syn??

any other opinions/suggestions would be appreciated. this is my second chevy truck and my first high performance truck.

    thanks to all that respond.

Flush trans for $120; if that is a flush with pan drop and filter change go for it, if it is just a flush I would avoid it with that many miles. To many people end up with slush boxes after just a flush without a pan drop and filter change on higher mile vehicles.

Fuel injector flush $120 is high in my area, but shop around, that may be the going rate where your at. Lucas makes a really good fuel injector cleaner I use every time I change my oil, $3.99 most places.

Fuel Filter, yea it needs it probably, $51 is steep, but not harsh. You can do it yourself on the '03 it is still on the frame rail.

Oil? I've used the German Castrol Synthetic since the first oil change, it's a 0w-30 but viscosity is more like a 5w-40 Mobil. So far I've can't complain about it.

As for gas, my VHO doesn't like anything less than 91, she's picky like that.

Anything else on a new/used '03 SS, well if it was me I would probably change the plugs even though chevy says they are good for 100k.

  4. It's time for new front pads. I really like Green Stuff pads that I've had in the past, but I don't see that they make anything for the SSS. Anyone have anything that can compare to GS pads for the SSS?

    Looking for:

    Initial bite

    low noise  :nono:

    low dust

    in that order...

I put some Performance Friction Carbon Metallic pads on the front of the Envoy about 6 months ago. Couldn't be happier, low to no dust, noise is not an issue and they were not very expensive at the local parts store. Just did the backs recently, put on OEM type Wagners since the back doesn't do that much stopping anyway.

  5. I have a 2000 Z71 single cab and i was wondering if anyone could help me out with the problem i am having... Everytime i start driving from a stop there is a squealing/squeaking noise that comes from the back of my truck (atleast sounds like it) it stops making the noise around 20-25MPH anyone have any idea what might be the problem. I have a friend that thinks its the brakes because i do need new rotors/pads. any help would be great

Caliper sticking? Could just be like you said, time for new pads. If the rotor has not been turned since you've had the truck it could be a sticking caliper causing premature wear on the pads/rotor.

  6. Had a guy in a few weeks back at the dealership I work at, grenaded his rear, he told me he was pulling a boat and it "clunked" while he was pulling a boat leaving a stop light. I knew better but we fixed it under warranty. Only thing we didn't replace was the axles and the housing, never saw such a mess of steel sludge in a punkin in my life. I wouldn't worry about the tune or K&N, we never looked under the hood or hooked it to a Tech2.

  7. Has anyone cut off the first two cats or sound resonators? Im assuming there a little of both? Any ways In light of that rock I hit im pretty sure it knocked loose some honeycomb in there and i was going to just cut them off what do you guys think??? Pros/Cons

First two cats? There are only two cats to begin with. Since your in the politically correct state your stuck with those cats if you want to pass emission tests. Live with it, or get some Magnaflow cats to replace them.

  8. My dealer doesn't use synthetic trans fluid, just Mobil ATF. Question, how many miles on the vehicle, did they drop the pan and change the filter or just flush? Usually we won't just do a flush on a vehicle with more than 50k on the clock, it ends up flushing the crud out of the filter then you end up with a problem like your seeing.

Truck has right at 50k on it now. But he told me they just did a flush on the tranny. So I am probably going to take it back and tell them the issue I am having and go from there. Thanks for the info

If the dealer advised you to get the flush they "may" be responsible for repairs. Some better dealers will, if you went in and demanded a flush your up a creek. If you are calm about it usually they will take care of you. Sounds like a possible clogged pressure control solenoid, that is the most obvious cause of slipping after a flush.

  9. My dealer doesn't use synthetic trans fluid, just Mobil ATF. Question, how many miles on the vehicle, did they drop the pan and change the filter or just flush? 10. I have had my vho for only about four months. I would really like to know what kind of cam profile the stock cam has. any reply would be appreciated.
