The 06 Has rear drums because the 06 rear diff is from a HD truck. The 03-05, some of the power goes to the front diff and not all on the rear. THe 06 all the power goes to the rear so they put in the beefier rear that does not a factory disc setup.

What kind of fluid should I get. I know its gear oil, but do I need something special.

My truck is almost turning 30. The only maintenance I have done is oil changes. What should I look into replacing at 30k miles?

Easy with the term "police interceptor". That is a Ford expression. Chevrolet never used that term.
