I imagine it to be a very tension-filled and scary time, until quite a while after the suspect is handcuffed and hauled away. I dated a cop for a while and she said that a traffic stop was one of the most terrifying things she did as a deputy sheriff. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I would guess it is terrifying afterwards.
