Mobile 1 Oil

Recommended Posts

I had my oil changed last Saturday where I always go.

They said they discontiued Mobil 1 full synthetic because

it was reformulated and it was going to be about three

bucks more per quart. He said somethimg about it was

now a 15,000 mile oil now or something like that. This

guy also races midget sprint cars, so I figure he knows

a little something about what he was talking about. I let

him put in Castrol 10/30 full sythetic, although I did not

want really want to change. Anybody else using Mobil 1

run into this? Do I need to pay more for the oil or change

to something else like Royal Purple? :banghead:

I've always used valvoline semi synthetic durablend. They also have fully synthetic. The durablend is about 17.00 for a case of 6.

The guy was blowing smoke up your ass.

Mobil 1 is still available, but now they have Mobil 1 high endurance formula that is rated for up to 15,000 miles between changes. I think its a little more expensive per quart... an oil change place tried to pull this on my wife a couple of weekends ago and SURPRISE when I showed up and confronted the guy on it they had standard mobil 1 synthetic. Just minutes earlier they had told her the same "reformulated" BS and said it was going to be $3.50 more per quart... just an example of people trying to take advantage of the consumer. :icon_bs:

I just picked up some more mobile1 full synthetic. They do have the new formula out also but I was still able to get my usual stuff. To save a few bucks on oil, I actually went to Walmart and got a 5qt jug of mobile1 for like $24 then bought an additional quart there which is cheaper than buying at a normal auto store, at least around me its cheaper. While were on the oil topic, I forgot my mileage when I changed my oil last time, anyone know what % they change their oil on the DIC? I know still have about a 1,000 miles before I have to change it but i just want to check. I change every 2500-2700 miles

Castrol is good stuff so I wouldn't worry. I use Mobil 1 0W-40 myself. I used to use the 10-30 in my 1999 Camaro SS but had some oil consumption issues that were solved with the 40 weight.

This new high endurance stuff...I'm sure it's good. But is anyone in their right mind going to go 15K miles between oil + filter changes? I mean I have no doubt technology allows for the viscosity and lubricating properties to hold up that long, but isn't the oil gonna be getting a little dirty in that interval?

Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but even with full synthetic I think you should change at least every 5K miles. Then again, before she met me, I don't think my wife even knew you were supposed to change the oil... :uhoh:

I have used Mobile one for years and will not stop. Mobile one has been some of the best oil available for many years too.

Im sure if Mobile one was to change something it would only be for the better.

But :dunno: who knows, Im also the guy that over maintains everything.

Every 3k oil change

Every 3k Tire rotation

Every 10k Trans service

Every 15k or earlier if needed Alignment and Balance

Walmart in Phillipsburg NJ in March:

$3.78 / Qt.

$18.01 for the 5 Qt. jug

For Mobil 1 5W30.

I purchased my next 5 oil changes that day. ...for 2 vehicles.

I have seen a big difference in prices at Walmart at different locations. Shop around!

Dylan's right...I just bought "Mobil 1 5W-30 Super-Syn"

That other stuff is just a new line from Mobile 1...

I just buy 6 qts. then take it to the Dealer and have them change it...

I change my oil when the DIC tells me to or soon after 0%

Does anyone use "Royal Purple"?????? Ive always wondered if it really works

or makes a difference at all? The way they market it makes it seem all high performance...

Thanks in advance

 Shane

I think the LQ9 comes with different oil maybe semi-synthetic???

im probly wrong (GM would probly never do something that smart lol)

but all you have to do is get Synthetic next time you

get an oil change...nothing special...I use Mobile 1 "Super-Syn"...

FULLY Synthetic motor oil is sooooo much better for your truck...

i get 5W-30 but it depends on the climate where you are...

Here in Southern California its usually
