2nd Gear Start

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but it's an automatic, meaning you can start in second or third, but it will still start from first and then go no higher than the gear you have selected???

Highest torque to the rear wheels occurs in first gear due to the higher numerical ratio than second gear.

First gear = 3.06:1

Second gear = 1.63:1

Dividing the two gears to find the "ratio" between them gives -

1.63:1 / 3.06:1 = 0.53 = 53%

Therefore starting out from a stop in second gear in a slippery road situation such as water, ice or snow will send 47% less torque to the wheels than first gear. This limits wheel spin in low traction conditions because there is nearly half the power being delivered to the wheels.

Speaking of 3.06:1 first gear ratios - I just love how the SS leaps off the line. Torque multiplication rules!
