orlando
I think this feature is a joke on a pick up it will only work if your on flat land pulling no load. In a car it may be more usefull. ;)

PewterC3
get rid of the cam, timing chain and gears, lifters, pushrods, and rocker arms ....and go to solenoid operated valves. this would allow you to change the intake and exhaust valve opening times and distances.... at will. Like have an economy cam, towing cam, and performance cam all in one.
h0tr0d
the DOD is a 8 cyl to 4cyl change not the 8-6-4 like the old caddys. the caddys failed because the balance of 6 cyls firing made for bad vibrations and balance in the motor. the 4 cyl mode is only for crusing and the 8 cyl is for acceleration. the are actually thinking of useing them in future corvettes not for more mileage in the current motors but for larger motors and more power making the same mileagew as the current "smaller" motor. just so you know. h0tr0d
I wonder what "displacement on demand" Will be with the new engines! I would love to see a 2007 SSS with the LS2 and a charger on it!!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> it is on the new impala ss it can use 8 cylinders under full power and then cut out cylinders as needed to conserve fuel from 8 -6- to 4 when crusing actually pretty neat feature <{POST_SNAPBACK}> actually its only 8 - 4cyl for balancing reasons.
