bambino
I've been reading about how lots of you are getting over 14 mpg. I barely get 13, my truck is completely stock with all service done at dealer, it's got 55000 miles runs great. Dealer says nothing is wrong with it but why are you all getting so much more than me, i've seen as high as 17mpg. Anybody with suggestions? It get's the same mileage as when i got it at 3000 miles. Thanks Everyone
04CHASE
cetain mods actually help mpg, since your is stock that is about right for around town driving.

bambino
I did notice that lots of people are using aftermarket performance parts thats why i was stumped, cause the guy with the heavily modded engine is still getting better mpg then me. What would you all suggest i do as first upgrades? BEFORE i get pcmforless or zippy tuned. As far as mpg and performance, cost effectiveness Thanks again. Oh Yeah, i allmost forgot, this site is AWESOME!

pnblwzd
Theoretically, hp mods increase the engine's efficiency and "could" result in added gas mileage. However, you would have to keep your foot out of it to realize the added mileage, which I don't think happens much around here If gas mileage is a concern, this is not the truck to get. bambino
is there more i need then just adding a supercharger.such as....pistons,cam,heads. are the internals strong enough for one, i drive it hard as hell
.justin.
If done properly, a custom tune will give you better milage. With the timing at the ideal setting, the truck will make more power on a given amount of fuel than with the stock tune.
misterp
Best use of $$$ to achieve mileage - 1) replace super-restrictive stock mullfer (or catback) 2) replace inefficient air cleaner 3) get 91-octane tune My own truck is an AWD SS, I bought the Corsa Touring exhaust system ($700), Outlaw intake ($250), and PCM4Less tune ($250) and at 70mph I am achieving 16+mpg. I flogged the piss out of it from Stephenville to Albuqueque and back last spring (average DIC speed = 92mph over 8 hours each way), remember that's driving up to the top of the Rocky Mountains and back, and still got 14.4mpg; around town is high 13's, and that's leaving pretty hard from the stop lights as the truck has a 2800-rpm converter. Several here also love the dual-in/dual-out Flow-pro or Flowmaster mufflers (cheapest?) and the Magnaflow catback too. Not the only options out there but a lot less than $650-750... 2WD trucks will get better mileage because they are geared taller (3.73 vs. 4.10). Keep driving under 75mph; at 75mph the PCM dumps in extra fuel to prevent the catalytic converters from possibly overheating; on the DIC you will see your mileage plummet from 16 to 14 going from 74 to 76mph. Talk to your PCM tuner and see if they can enable "lean cruise mode" on your PCM, it will add several MPG to your freeway mileage; some tiuners are equipped to do this adjustment, others aren't so you have to ask. backinblack
it's a 345hp truck the gas mileage sucks. Is 17mpg really that much better than 13? What's that gonna save you $200 a year. Put your foot in it and don't check the fuel mileage.
