CoolBlueSS
The old sight glass went away in the late 70s on GM cars when they went to the accumulator/orfice tube setup. About the only way to really tell is to hook it up to a manifold guage to check the pressures. I have the guages, and can help you out with that I you need it. There are a couple of issues with late model A/C systems. One is the low pressure cycling switch mounted on the accumulator, and the second is the high side service fitting leaking. The switch is an easy fix, but the fitting you have to drain the system to repairit. The WOT thing is a WOT switch that shuts off the compressor to give full power. It sounds like you're just low on freon.
misterp
...It sounds like you're just low on freon. I assumed the PCM was disengaging the compressor; can your manifold guages tell if the system is low on freon? or just low on pressure? or do the two go hand-in-hand? Mr. P. CoolBlueSS
The two go hand in hand, assuming the system is working properly. But, if it's not the pressures/guages can point you in the right direction for repair. Do you notice if the compressor cycles on and off quite a bit?
