montanass
Ok, so I purchased a used PCM that is already programmed, and I didnt get the RELEARN procedure from the guy... I want to get this thing in soooon, so if Zippy or someone who knows how to do it could post it up, and this could be the official PCM Relearn thread I'm sure it will come in handy for some people in the future! Thanks! -Cody
misterp
I am positive this has been discussed before, months ago - try the site search. Mr. P.
fox_forma
what relearn do you need? There is an idle relearn and also a crank sensor relearn or something like that which needs to be down with a tech2 to get rid of the check engine light
montanass
well the VIN's dont match... and i'm under the impression that I need to do a "relearn" to make it work.... I'm not really sure what it is or what it accomplishes but I dont want to cut corners and mess something up....
fox_forma
someone who has tuning software i believe has to go in and change the vin themselves, i dont think a relearn will fix it but i could be wrong
JF-03-SS
You installed a PCM w/ someone elses vin#?
montanass
I havent installed it yet.... from your guy's reactions i'm guessin I have to have the PCM reprogrammed for my vin #
SoCalSS
You dont need a PCM tune for your VIN, I never gave Bryan @ pcmforless my VIN so you should be fine as long as the tune is for a SSS with a 6.0 L.... Install PCM per Mister P How To... 1) Try to start the truck(it should start but die right away)leave the key in the on position for atleast 11 minutes (the security light will remain on for 8-10 of those minutes).... 2) AFTER the 11 minutes the light should have gone out (if not thats ok), now turn the key to the off position for about 30 seconds. Now try to start the truck again and it should start and die right away, Leave key in the on position. 3) Once again w/o turning the key to the off position, Let the truck sit for 11 minutes, after 11 minutes then turn the key to the off position for 30 seconds. 4) Retry again to start truck, it will die again and follow same thing as before for the last time. After the third time it should start right up. And then you can go test out the new beast P.S. Make sure to turn headlights off, radio, subs, amps and any other accessories....Since this process takes 30+ minutes your battery may die if you are blasting your radio while trying to be patient Edited May 19, 2006 by SoCalSS (see edit history)

montanass
OK, I got it all done... and I am very pleased The shift points have been moved up to 6,000(ish) and it seems to run a little better, but i'm thinkin i need to put some premium in it.... which sucks b/c I just filled it up on tuesday with 87 octane... so i was thinkin about running to wal mart and picking up some octane booster....and seeing if that helps a little... Thanks for the help everyone... (sorry about the Mr. P) -Cody

Don't waste your money on the octane boost - it will not help.

I will run 91 from now on, but there was no point for spending the x-tra money for gas when my mileage was the same either way... I assume that with the tune, it will make a difference, but at our elevation its hard to tell....

Do you know what the former guy had the PCM set to run? Because mine is set to run 91, and when I put 87 in it felt real sluggish
