Something is broken inside it will roll forward in neutral but not backwards. Did you here me say UHOH? I have been working on my 70 Elcamino SS lately and hopwfully it'll be at SC. Sorry for the thread jack Dave

AUTOGUY
The model year is actually the 10th character from the left ... not the 8th. The 8th is the engine size ... Model Year The model year runs (thank you, Detroit) from September 1st of the previous year to August 31st of the nominal year. A 1980 2010 L 1990 2020 Y 2000 2030 B 1981 2011 M 1991 2021 1 2001 2031 C 1982 2012 N 1992 2022 2 2002 2032 D 1983 2013 P 1993 2023 3 2003 2033 E 1984 2014 R 1994 2024 4 2004 2034 F 1985 2015 S 1995 2025 5 2005 2035 G 1986 2016 T 1996 2026 6 2006 2036 H 1987 2017 V 1997 2027 7 2007 2037 J 1988 2018 W 1998 2028 8 2008 2038 K 1989 2019 X 1999 2029 9 2009 2039 And the pattern repeats itself every 30 years. Note that the sort sequence for characters in the VIN is A to Z, then 1 to 9, and finally 0, with the letters "I", "O" and "Q" not normally used. Actually I meant the 8th from the right(Which is the same position as the 10 from the left.) If you look at it, the 8th from the right is a 2 on the report. The vehicle is supposed to be a 2000. it should be a "Y" according to your chart above. Either way, something is not right.

Schmids5.3l
This story was one you could not stop reading. Glad it worked out for you. I would have filed for a stolen vehicle. This is why I will never buy anything off Ebay, its too easy to screw people on there. But its great to hear you got what you payed for.
