cerbomark
I saw an ATI supercharger on a new corvette. It looked strange, more like a turbo. The intake was mounted front, side of the motor. I m not sure what I was looking at, can someone explain?? Thanks .PS Is this a good system for our SS. I believe it was intercooled??? dcairns
The ATI is what you call a Centrifugal supercharger. It is basically a belt driven turbo. The power produced by a Centrifugal super charger has a different distribution across the RPM range compared to a Roots type supercharger (Radix) or Screw type supercharger (Whipple). Centrifugals get their power at higher RPMs than a roots or screw type supercharger. Centrifugals are used successfully on trucks, but usually in combination with a higher stall torque converter to get around the lack of low RPM boost.
