European frequency setting

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I imported a brand new Silverado SS 2006 to Belgium and I have the following problem.

In Europe, radio frequency goes up & down in steps by a half...explain....something like this : 100 to 100.5 to 101 and so on. Now you can imagine that a radio station in Belgium with a frequency setting of 101.5 can not be listened to in normal quality because you either have to set the radio to 101 or 102.

Is there any way to change these settings to European standards ?

Hope that my question is clear enough for you guys, did my best writing in English.

Maybe i'm not understanding what you are saying, but can't you just turn the tuning knob on the radio? from 100.1, 100.3, 100.5, 100.7....etc

I don't follow either as our radio stations are the same ie 101.9, 102.7, etc. Can you guys get satellite radio? Check out Sirius it's awesome!! Anyhow your radio should work if you turn the lower left knob it should adjust by tenths in odd numbers (.1 .3 .5 .7 .9).

Sat radio only works continental. Sirius and XM or only USA (i think canada also) anyways im pretty sure europe has sat radio (a wierd fact AFRICA was the first to have sat radio many years ago) anyways if all else fails with radio situation...even though im pretty sure it can work with the tuning knob (the little knob under the volume knob; rotate it slowly as you would volume), so if all else fails just get a aftermarket radio. good luck ask any questions :chevy:

HI Wingman, I'm in the UK and have a similar problem with frequencies Europe radio stations and all even frequencies and USA are odd, i found in my old silverado i could fine tune the stations in close enough to get reasonable reception, and i believe you can get a frequency adjuster to get stations spot on but i don't honestly know where to look for one, if your radio is satellite try http://www.worldspace.com/index.html i emailed them and for a yearly subscription they say we can pick up the euro sat stations, until i get my SS over I'm not sure what reception i'll get or what route i'll go down sat radio regular radio or new head unit.. on saying that i listen to Cd's most of the time.

good luck

eamonn.

I was bloody mistaken  :banghead:

For example, we have a radio station called SIS and it's located at 102.8. That frequency can't be tuned, it's 102.7 or 102.9 so weak reception.

No sattellite system here in Belgium.

If the advice that your fellow European dosnt work, then you can always get a aftermarket radio. There's some very nice ones that still look clean that you can get for $200. I like alpine; it will wake up your speakers as well.

My truck has the Bose Sound system, does a aftermarket radio work on this ?

Another thing : is there a manual how to remove the stock radio ?

For you european guy, cant you guys go to a local GM dealer and order a euro spec radio that shoud just hook up, without any problems.  If gm puts any double din radios in european cars.

Let's just say that these cars-trucks can't be purchased in Europe-Belgium and therefore you can not count on any support from local dealers. This means......bought something we don't sell............go to hell. This is Belgium guys.

about the same in the UK sort it yourself or pay one of the specialist importers a arm and a leg to do it for you..but to be honest i'd rather do repairs and servicing myself at least i know its done right then...

yeah it works, and if you search here you will find all the answers.

Iknow you will need a jl cleansweep and a harness theres a few things if your not a do-it-yourself kind of guy you can just take it to a aftermarket radio-install place and have them do everything

Mail to JL Audio is on it's way :)

Living in Belgium does not make it easy to order goods in the States (high taxes) so I better be sure to get the right things at once.

GM has a factory software calibration for the radio module that, when loaded into the module, allows for tuning to European radio frequencies. They also have software for Middle East/Saudi Arabia, South America, and of course, North America.

Just take it to a garage that can reprogram GM's, and they should be able to reprogram the radio module for you to work in Belgium.
