What brand of tire? no one said it was GM's warranty. it is the wheel mfg. warranty And what about GM's own new 20" wheel packages? Those won't void your new vehicle warranty. Fish-man is correct; this is the manufacturers warranty not GM. The 20" Wheel package comes with Falcon ST201 295/50/20 The 22" wheel package comes with NITTO 285/45/22 I will update our site today with tire options that are available. SuperDave
Can someone explain to me what the advantages of filling the tires with nitrogen? How does it improve ride quality and tire life? I've never heard of this practice before. I've heard of farmers filling their tires with propane, not a safe practice in my books! Please elaborate, Thanks, SuperDave
GMPartsDirect.com
Can someone explain to me what the advantages of filling the tires with nitrogen? How does it improve ride quality and tire life? I've never heard of this practice before. I've heard of farmers filling their tires with propane, not a safe practice in my books! Please elaborate, Thanks, SuperDave SuperDave We corrected our site; nitrogen does not improve ride quality. One of our parts guys misunderstood the manufacturer of our wheel and rim packages. Hopefully this will clear up some questions about Nitrogen. By the way I just moved from Germany and nitrogen is widely used, just about every tire shop has Nitrogen for an option. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What immediate benefit can be expected from Nitrogen filled tires? Better Maintenance of Air Pressures Because the molecules in Nitrogen are larger than the molecules in oxygen, Nitrogen migrates through a tire 3 to 4 times slower than oxygen. Lower Fuel Consumption Better air pressures improve rolling resistance and reduce the risk of running tires under-inflated. Cooler Running Tires Tires inflated with Nitrogen run approximately 20% cooler than tires inflated with air. Nitrogen is an inert clean gas that disperses heat quicker than regular compressed air. What are the long-term benefits of Nitrogen filled tires? Extended Tire Life With cooler running tires maintaining better pressure, tire life can be significantly extended Oxidation is Eliminated With Nitrogen, there is no more oxidation of inner liners, belt packages or air pressure monitoring devices (required in all motor vehicles effective November 2003). Improved Retreadability With the elimination of oxidation, there is no more loss of flexibility. Truck casings that start on Nitrogen have often had 4 or more retread lives. No More Rim Rust Nitrogen is completely dry. Condensation is eliminated. On the Road Reliability Tire failures are reduced as much as 80%... reducing costly down time. Stronger Casings Stronger casings = more retreads. rogervm
Sorry, but I can't resist. Scientific sounding B*llsh*t is still B*llsh*t. Because the molecules in Nitrogen are larger than the molecules in oxygen, Nitrogen migrates through a tire 3 to 4 times slower than oxygen. Yes, but air is already almost 80% nitrogen. Lower Fuel ConsumptionBetter air pressures improve rolling resistance and reduce the risk of running tires under-inflated. So if I actually check and maintain proper pressure there's no difference? Cooler Running TiresNitrogen is an inert clean gas that disperses heat quicker than regular compressed air. I beg to differ. Nitrogen is not an inert gas. Inert gases are in the halogen family that are on the rightmost column of the periodic table of the elements. These are: Helium, Neon, Argon, Krypton, Xenon and Radon. Ever notice on a smog test how they check for Nox? those are oxides of nitrogen, i.e. nitrogen that has reacted with oxygen. And see above about air already being 80% nitrogen. Extended Tire LifeWith cooler running tires maintaining better pressure, tire life can be significantly extended Once again, if you check your tire pressure once in a while air would work as well? Oxidation is EliminatedWith Nitrogen, there is no more oxidation of inner liners, belt packages or air pressure monitoring devices (required in all motor vehicles effective November 2003). This I might believe if everything that went before it didn't sound like a Ginsu knife ad. Improved RetreadabilityWith the elimination of oxidation, there is no more loss of flexibility. Truck casings that start on Nitrogen have often had 4 or more retread lives. I'll keep this in mind when I start retreading my own tires
56chevywagon
The only benefit to nitrogen that I know of is in different temperatures and altitudes, your tires with always be the about same. Nitrogen doesn't expand and contract to temprature and altitude like air, it stays at relatively the same presure. The Navy uses it in aircraft tires because of this reason. SuperDave
Does that mean that Citgo, Loves, 7-11 etc... are gonna start carrying tanks of nitrogen for our tires? Guess I'll be using plain ole inferior rim rustin' hot tire runnin, pressure changin' air here in Oklahoma! Thanks for all the info though! Consider me enlightened!
