My understanding is that GM DVD NAV units don't play movie DVD's. They can only read the NAV DVD's from GM so you can get your directions. I believe this was changed in 2007. The '07 units can read movie DVD's ... but only when the vehicle is in park. Once it's shifted out of park, the nav unit locks you out of viewing. It is the dealer's job to tell you they won't play DVD movies ... because the unit won't play them while the vehicle is in drive. Good news is that there are companies out there that offer override devices ... Here's One

Then you'll probably have to buy an external player and connect it to one of the inputs on the factory screen, and use one of the lockpick devices in the link I provided ... that may work. The other option is ... go aftermarket.

Well ... if I were you, I'd just try it. Hook up an external DVD to one of the inputs, and see if it'll play. I would imagine you'll still need a lockpick to unlock the DVD play override while driving ... since the factory head is programmed that way ...
