Regular oil in sub zero temps is almost like jelly (try sticking a quart of oil in the freezer over night then try to pour it out. It doesnt come out very well). Thats the same thing happening in your truck or car. The pour points of regular oil are poor at cold temps. Good synthetic oils pour points are usually in the range of -20 to -50 degrees. The pour point of reg oil is about -10 to -15 degrees but are still alot thicker. I have used synthetic oil for years in my snowmobile and truck royal purple and amsoil are good products that also work great in high heat as well as extreme cold with no changing of viscosity. You can use 10w30 year round with no problems. Vehicle get better gas mileage starts fast and runs cooler than it did with regular oil. Plus I dont hav to change oil as often.
