Fast2500Ak Posted December 4, 2007 Report Share Posted December 4, 2007 (edited) Well, I've been driving in alot of ice latley and I couldn't help but notice that my rear diff just doesn't want to engage. It's never been really great but now I get one tire spinning excessively and I have to play with the throttle to get both wheels pulling. Its starting to bother me bcause the 2500hd isn't supposed to be in 4wd on dry pavement, and it goes from dry to slick alot. The truck is a 01 2500HD. I'm going to change the fluid tomorrow if the temperature gets close to 0 and the wind dies down. If I have to repalce it are there any aftermarket posi's that would be significantly better than stock? I know a guy who has an Auburn and says he likes it, and I've also heard that eaton makes a good unit. It's too slick and the truck is just to heavy to control around corners with a locker so I think I'll stay with a posi. In your openion, who makes the strongest one? Thanks for the tip Quick. Now which brands make good lockers? The stock is a truetrack isn't it? Fast2500Ak Posted December 4, 2007 Author Report Share Posted December 4, 2007 I just got back from under my truck and ITS COLD OUT THERE! Also my rear diff appears to have a fill plug on the passengers side and an identical drain plug at the bottom. Both appear to have a large square socket in them which seems to fit a standard ratchet, the part that the socket hooks onto. At least I hope this is what I'm supposed to use to unscrew them. It still doesn't want to lock up under acceleration but it least it is locking up. I guess I'll just replace it when I get around to it. Thanks again for all the help!
