What's The Best Way To Fix My Fuel Problem?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

One of my first posts. I've been reading related threads for an hour and a half, so I figured I had paid my dues and went ahead and made a post for this question. LOL!

A little background: I just purchased an '04 blue silverado ss over the weekend. I know the previous owner is from MI, (I don't know him personally) but I bet he is/was a member of this site. Here is a link: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/792993/1

Hopefully someone remembers this truck or knows this guy. Any info you guys know or if he is on here would be awesome! He obviously pulled off some of the bolt ons before selling the truck. That is fine as I'm sure most of us would do the same. I'm just trying to figure out what the truck currently has and why he sold it. Currently, it is running very lean. The LTFT's are up to 25% on both banks. Fuel pressure is 50 at idle and 41 at wot. The truck runs like it's lean so I believe the gauge. What I'm trying to figure out is he put in the aftermarket pump that comes with the s/c kit or if he used a voltage booster. I'm wondering if he used a booster and just removed it before selling the truck. That would make sense. Or the pump may be going bad. Either way it would be nice to know so I can have the right parts on hand when I go to drop the tank so that I don't have the truck down any longer then necessary.

The truck currently has a maggy blower, k & n filter in stock housing, shorty headers and 3" exhaust (corsa). I'm turning in a TB SS (which I loved), but this truck takes the cake!!! Now I see why you guys are so passionate about these!

Thanks!!!

this is what he had specified in a modification thread:

your truck: 2004 SS

engine size: 6.0L

camshaft: stock (deciding between lingenfelter GT 2-3 or GT - 7)

cylinder heads: stock

pullies: 2.9" on the blower

intake system: Radix @ 8.5 ish lbs., updated Volant with ram air scoop

exhaust system: JBA Stainless headers, Corsa Sport, everything in-between those two is stock.

fuel system: 42 lb. "Lightning" Injectors / SVO / green tops / whatever!, Walbro "radix" pump kit.

Ignition System: MSD 8.5mm HT leads (thats high tension leads because they are not F'n wires!) & Delco Plugs

cooling system: 05' E-fans, 160 LPE deg. T-stat, re-located heat exchanger with added cooling fan

transmission (second one): Trailblazer torque converter, Zippy shift kit , all clutches red alto, wider 2-4 band, hp clutch pak etc. etc. etc.

Thanks. Right now it has the green tops (42's???). And the stock pulley (6 psi I believe). I just want to get it running like it is supposed to. I'd love to boost it up, but right now I need it to be reliable as my dd for a while.

try http://www.nastyperformance.com/99-06Trucks.html or search magnavolt. I would also invest in some tuning software or contact a ls1 tuner. Make sure you injectors are big enough. Try hp tuners ls1 edit look in the software section of the forums.

Thanks guys for the help. Looks my truck does have the Walbro pump. Is it common with these "Returnless" systems to have multiple pump failures? Sounds like maybe something else like a wiring problem. I thought Walbro made a good product.?

Also, where can I get these around the Detroit area? Or best source (via mail)? Thanks again for all of the help!!!

A fuel pump may not be your only problem. Mine was doing the same thing but mine is also an 03 so I have a return. I replaced the 02 sensors with ones I took out of a H2, as well as stock cats because my Magnaflows were destroyed. I replaced my fuel pump too and still ran lean. If I were you I would run a diagnostic and check all the codes. I checked for evap leaks, replaced the o2 sensors, checked the FPR and lines and found nothing. My SS still runs lean though and I can't figure it out yet. I am going to check voltage tomorrow though. Just wanted to help you out though. Welcome to the site.
