Shift Kit Install

Recommended Posts

Update, I went to the exhaust shop and they jacked it up and looked at it. Finally after 10-15min of them asked me questions, such as how fast it was, where I got it and how much they liked the looks, why not get a handheld programmer to make the shifts harder(even though I said I have a PCM tune that does that) why I would install a shift kit, how they liked my truck, then they finally said something. They had a floor jack and put it under the trans and lowered the truck a little and I saw how much it moved and I think its enough room. So in the morning I will attempt the 2nd try to install the kit. And I would say that I will be back on here asking about other stuff. The bad part is that if only removing the pan was this big of a headache I cant think of what is still to come.

P.S. There was a kid there who had bought a 07 Dodge and he was hinting at me to race. I didnt pick up on it I guess cause my friend who went with me told me on the way home.

I think the reason that most people want them out is because they don't realize how it is actually gonna ride. You have to be ready to say goodbye to seamless shifting cause even just cruising around you will def. be able to feel each time your truck shifts. And when your on the throttle, the whole truck almost jumps if you have a tune too. It's def. not a mod for everybody, but I love mine, puts a smile on my face everytime I stomp the pedal. :D:chevy:

You know you're not supposed to run a shift kit and a "normal" tune together, right? You're supposed to retune after installing a shift kit because the pressure settings will be WAAAAAAAAAY off from where they need to be with a shift kit installed and you WILL be putting undue wear on the trans, or worse yet start breaking parts. Pretty much, you need to return the pressure tables back to stock (or close to it), though you can more safely run no torque management with upgraded internals.

Also, there are "options" when installing the shift kit. You don't have to install the heaviest springs, drill the largest holes, or block off the accumulators for a daily driver unless that's how you want the trans to perform.

All very good points, that is why I had my truck tuned about a month after I got my shift kit installed.

Yeah, I just wanted to make sure he understands it too since he's already got a wheatly tune!!! It better be tuned for a shift kit or pump/seals could go poof!
