keebler85
Ok this is way out there, but i am looking to buy a new gun come summer time....i want either a dpms or a bushmaster....the question is what round to get...i go deer hunting but i might go elf hunting sometime...so i need a round that can get through deep woods without losing power...but also can take a big game down...i was thinking 223 but i dont know how that will work with big game...maybe a 300 or 450....i dont know what to get so any input would be nice
NTMD8R_SS
Where do you go hunting? Edited April 28, 2008 by NTMD8R_SS (see edit history)
montanass
223 would work great for elf's, but not so much on big game. I shoot a .270 and am happy with it. I've been thinking about moving up to a .300WSM for more knock down power. IMO .300 is a good solid choice for deer/elk/bear.
kweber1911
I will be going with a .300WSM as well for my next rifle. Right now I shoot a 30-06 though and i love that gun. PLENTY of stopping power.

FFHamptonSS
If your looking for a factory gun and wanting to hunt big game, then its obvious to go with a big caliber. I have a 25-06, that I shoot, that I have some work done too, and also load my own bullets. Ruger makes good rifles, as well as winchester, either or is up to you. Or you could always build a custom gun, like a .338 or .50 cal. or something, they got plenty of knockdown power.

packjh
guy i hunt with hunts deer with a .223 and has so for years... my dad has killed more deer than most people have with .243 from when he bought it back in his early years. I hunt with a .270 for deer and if i had to pick a gun for all around use i would go with a .308 bear, deer, elk, moose.. just remember its where you place it not the size of the round that matters most....atleast thats what my lying x told me
