Lots of bar and resteraunt tourney's. The string is a distance marker. You hook the clips into the eyelets on the end of the boards, and you always have the right distance between then boards. Just a suggestion, we generally like using two cables/ropes, one at each end, to also make sure they are aligned even as well as correct distance. BUT they rock!
