novanet Posted March 1, 2004 Report Share Posted March 1, 2004 Go here and try to run the online virus scanner from Symantec. This should give you a basic confirmation of any virus activity on your system. It sounds as if you have two different problems. Are you using antivirus softyware? If so, what type, revision? As far as the pop-ups, you probably have one of the newer, nasty memory resident versions of adware/spyware. The fix is generally a good removal tool (I use ad-Aware also) which can run itself before the OS completely loads on startup. This will allow it to access the pop-up software before it gets a chance to load itself into the protected files of the OS.
