rattlindodge Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 (edited) So my 04 Silverado ss has this noise. First you will only hear it when the engine is under a load , so like when it shifts into say 4th and the engine feels to be making the most torque, if i put my foot into it as much possible before it down shifts , it gets slightly worse. Its hard to tell if the noise is there at hi rpm. This noise is kinda like a bearing or rattle/wobble noise? 2nd today i was messing around with the truck and decided to rev it up in park, not to redline but a pretty good rev and it sounded like something was rattling around in the engine. I was at probably 2k and quickly revved to 4k, when the engine was un revving is when it made the noise. Any ideas? It seems to idle just fine and runs good, no noise at idle. badass03ss Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 what octane fuel are you using? Quote
rattlindodge Posted August 22, 2008 Author Report Posted August 22, 2008 also i just had an engine code p0430 , it turned out to be a bad mass airflow censor. I cleared that code and have only driving 10 miles. Quote
rattlindodge Posted August 22, 2008 Author Report Posted August 22, 2008 87 i think, the cheapest of the 3 fuels Quote
badass03ss Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 need to run high octane fuel unless you have the pcm tuned to run the cheap stuff Quote
rattlindodge Posted August 22, 2008 Author Report Posted August 22, 2008 (edited) dang i just filled it up, well ill remember that come next fill up. So im detonating then? Edited August 22, 2008 by rattlindodge (see edit history) Quote
Jond983 Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 i've had a question about gas in the SS' for the longest...is premium fuel recommended for bone stock SS'? Quote
rattlindodge Posted August 23, 2008 Author Report Posted August 23, 2008 well mine has k&n air filter and different exhaust if that makes a difference Quote
FireRescueSS Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 i've had a question about gas in the SS' for the longest...is premium fuel recommended for bone stock SS'? Yup. Mine won't run on anything but, and it only has a CAI, wouldn't run on the cheap stuff before that either. Quote
badass03ss Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 Yup. Mine won't run on anything but, and it only has a CAI, wouldn't run on the cheap stuff before that either. yea,, what he said Quote
Jond983 Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 that's what i thought, the truck has had premium since day 1, i also have it tuned for premium Quote
rattlindodge Posted August 23, 2008 Author Report Posted August 23, 2008 So i just filled it up again, with 90 octane. Is that enough octane, i thought that they used to sell like 92 octane for the good stuff at the pump? Quote
nxtnlne Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 In your manual it states to run no less then 91 octane. It will run with 87 and 90 but your truck will ping. Best to go with the 91 or 92 whichever is availible. Quote
Fireman31 Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 Valve train noise is common with the LS based engines......yes 91+ Octane is required. Putting anything less then that in it is not going to save you anything. The LQ9 in these trucks has 10:1 compression = high octane fuel required. Low octane in these trucks = knock/ping/detonation = KR = less power, lower fuel economy, less efficiency. Quote
