SSPOSSE Posted October 5, 2008 Report Share Posted October 5, 2008 Old Dominion Freightline :3rd shift, Trailer relay specialist, basiclly i take frieght we have on trailers at the dock and add it to trailers that are coming thru going to other terminals, by doing this iam adding to the bottom line on the trailer. which means more money made for profit on the trailer. just under 20.00 an hour, with OT and all that is said about 53k a year, attending the driver school at the end of the year, driver on one of our medium runs, starts out about 68k to 73k a year, looking forward to that... while other trucking companies are struggling and laying people off or talking about taking a loss for the year, we continue to grow and run one of the lowest O/R on the industry, they take care of thier people, have a good grasp on the way things are needed to be done and thats why we are the 3rd largest freight company behind UPS,FEDX........ black00chev Posted October 5, 2008 Report Share Posted October 5, 2008 Parts/Accessories salesmen at a 4-line motorcycle dealer (honda, suzuki, yamaha, kawasaki). We sell dirtbikes, fourwheelers, sport bikes, cruisers, scooters, and power equipment so there are lots of things that need parts. Get paid hourly and commission so what I get depends on how I sell and if I make any overtime, which hasnt been happening lately since they extended our lunch to cut back on that (cant complain really). Lately business has been slow, it if was like it used to be I'd be doin good... Either way, for being 20 years old, the 30k-40k bracket is nice. I like the company I work for but pretty much hate what I do. desrtrat Posted October 5, 2008 Report Share Posted October 5, 2008 i work now for a porta-potty co. we have a contract with the Army to supply over 1000 out houses per mo. at NTC Ft. Irwin. also we supply portable shower units for the troops in the field training. my job is to maintain the showers, and we supply water to them daily, with about 25,000 gal of water per day average, i drive over some of the worst roads and trails you can imagine about 140 miles per day. the hours are long, the pay sucks, enough dust to gag a maggot, 125*+ but I'm glad right now to at least to have a job, no matter how sh***y it is... billsws6 Posted October 5, 2008 Report Share Posted October 5, 2008 i am a route salesperson for frito lay i service the same 3 stores 5 days a week. the best part is when i am done for the day i go home. so when it is slow i might work 6-7 hours a day and when it is busy 11-13 hours a day. i also take the company truck home with me so i dont pay for gas. i only have 26k miles on my 03 ss! palletyard Posted October 6, 2008 Report Share Posted October 6, 2008 i work for warnock foods inc. they make all kinds of chips, tostada bowls, and taco shells, also onion chips which you can find at burger king there hamburgers. pita strips and piknik potato strips we mainly deal with schools but they are expanding and soon going to make cheese puffs and also we lost a company and took on another get out there and try em ...on the border chips yummy. i forgot to mention i drive forklift and i make 18.53 an hour not hard work at all. and the wife is an r.n. and she makes 85,000 i really dont have to work and she keeps telling me that but i cant be home all the time. Fabcon makes precast walls for Wall-Mart, Lowes, Builder's Square, Menard's, Gander Mountain, etc. I've worked at Magnetech, a body shop between jobs, and at an electric company where I made the prototype motors for Delphi for G.M.'s first electric cars and I repaired the bay door motor for the Space Shuttle after it failed to open in space. I commute two hours a day on my Harley or in my Neon. My truck never goes to work. My wife and I care for two guys in our home with cognitive disabilities. I'm lucky to be working and half expect to be laid off soon. I take care of the plant electrical, fab eqipment, repair our Mac trucks, and p.m. equipment. I have been really lucky. I do my fair share of volunteer work. My truck is the only thing that is for me and it will be the first thing to go if my luck runs out. dmf21209 Posted October 6, 2008 Report Share Posted October 6, 2008 (edited) been working as a diesel tech for a contrater of verizon/at&t and a few others. we do aerial and underground fiber and copper. there are two mechanics for 70+ trucks and 30+ pieces of equiptment. its alot of hard work ont he side of the road and getting dirty. pay is good and hours are great usually 6-2pm or 4-12 pm and some ot. i dont hate it . well shit...didnt know there was a fellow "kind of" cable dog on here.... I'm a cable/antenna maintenance tech in the air force, get usual military pay (it's easy to look up our paycharts) which is good money depending on your situation and what you can leech from the government. Cant beat free healthcare and retiring at 38 years old! On the side I work part time at sears automotive, mainly got it because they're going to pay me to get my ASE certification and so I can have some extra dough to buy parts for the truck. I dont think I'd do anything else in the military other than the job I got now, our career field is a different breed of people, and I'm lovin it so far. As far as sears goes...ehh...it's extra cash... edit: oh and to elaborate a little more on the job title, install fiber/copper cable and climb the 100+ foot towers.
