  3. I'm posting this in 2 different forums, hoping to get a quick response. I have a question on my 2005 VHO. I'm needing new front rotors and pads and curious which ones you would suggest and why? I want to stay away from drilled/slotted ones, have experienced cracking even with the expensive ones but heard that slotted ones work great, whats your opinion? Also, just how big are our front rotors? I'm hearing 12.99 and 13.99 from auto parts stores, which is correct?

  5. UPDATE: The noise finally got more consistant and as it turned out is is indeed one of the cats so I went ahead and had them both replaced, problem solved
  6. Is there a way to check the flywheel or flex plate without having to pull the motor?
  7. The noise is sort of coming back, not as loud but its there from time to time. I've beat on the cat and it made no noise. Of course everytime I try to get the noise to duplicate for a mechanic it wont, figures huh? I've had it on a lift again and we shook the crap out of the exhaust thinking something was loose but found nothing, really sucks! It isnt missing or down on power but I would really hate it if its an internal motor issue and I end up blowing up the block because its alot cheaper to rebuild it than be forced to replace it. And of course I would hate to pull the motor, get it rebuilt only to find the noise is still there. The part that bothers me the most is not knowing.
  8. Leviser, can you send me a link to the video?
  9. Update!! I'm not sure what in the heck happened but it hasnt made the noise since Monday morning, most bizarre
  10. Thanks for the replies guys. I cant recall for sure if I hit some water while the cat was hot but I might have, however, wouldnt the truck throw a code if the cat is bad? Live4DaThrottle, I didnt cut open the filter but I have had several shops examine and smell the oil and everyone says it looks great. Also, if a lifter collasped wouldnt it be constant? As to the sound, it kinda sounds more like sheet metal or aluminum vs solid metal, does that make sense?
  11. A few weeks back my truck, 2005 VHO with Magnacharger, 120,000 miles started making a rather loud clacking/clunking noise when I start it up after it sat overnight. I ran out and popped the hood but you could barely hear the noise from under the hood but it was loud under the truck and seemed to be louder on the pass side. I shut it off, restarted it and no noise. The next morning the same thing happened only this time I actually drove it down the road, about 10 yards and the noise stopped. I figured it only did it while it was cold so the following morning I called AAA, put it on a flat bed without ever starting it so I could get it to the shop cold and they could hear the noise. Of course it didnt make any noise so they never got to hear it. The next morning I recorded the noise but they couldnt tell by listining to my recording. Initially I thought it was the O ring on the oil pickup tube because I was told it was a pretty common problem with the LS motors, so I replaced it and it seemed to quiet down for a couple weeks then it started again. So I took it to a shop. At first he thought it was the main bearing clearance but after putting a mechanical guage on it the guage remained stable so he does not believe that is the issue and is pretty stumped, as am I. It only does it when its cold and quiets down rather quickly but this morning it didnt do it at all, most bizarre. Any ideals? Also, are there and performance shops in Southern California that might be able to help me? I figure until I at least get a diagnosis I probably shouldnt take it out of town but I do have AAA Plus so I can get it hauled just about anywhere in So Cal, within reason of course. I'm going to try and attach the file of the noise that I recorded on my android. On the sound file I placed my phone under the drivers side, started it up, let it record for a minute then took my phone under the hood, as I say during the recording, then place it back under the drivers side. OK, it wont let me upload the file, its a m4a file
  12. Also, a couple times, while at a stop light it chugged so I placed it into neutral and reved the motor a little. Then stopped for gas and it died as I was pulling up to the pump, started right back up. Drove another 60 miles home, stopped to recycle some coffee and idled fine. Went back to the dealer and it ran great, hasent died since, that was Friday
  13. It does not do it all the time but when it does its always at idle when I'm slowly moving but other than that there isnt any real pattern. As to how rough, it chugs like it wants to die and has actually died a few times but it always fires right back up and like I said, it doesnt always do it. Air filter fine, fuel pressure fine. FYI, I only run Chevron Premium grade. I dont know if that helps or not
  14. I put in new plugs and wires about 2 months back
  15. Could this time just be that my truck computer is just relearning after the throttle body got its good cleaning? There was a slight "Lip" of carbon built up on the inside top that was cleaned off?
  16. Hey guys, its been awhile. First off, 2005 VHO, 6.0, Radix MP112 and its not showing any codes on my Scan Gauge 2 or GM Tech Tool. Anyhow, awhile back, at times my truck was running a little rough at idle so I hooked up my Scan Gauge 2 and noticed the TPS would drop low at times, so it was suggested by a mechanic to replace the TPS, which I did, just the TPS, not the entire throttle body unit, and it appeared to be fine for awhile. I also replaced a couple vacuum caps just in case. Recently it started acting up again, rough idle at times, so I cleaned the MAF by just spraying it with MAF cleaner and while I was at it I cleaned the throttle body and figured that would take care of things, nope. It seemed to idle rougher at idle more often and died twice so I took it to a local Good Wrench garage. They had never worked on a super charged motor so they did the normal. They suggested maybe the MAF got damaged from the spraying, even though I didnt touch it with anything, so I had it replaced, this seemed to fix the issue but 2 days later it started doing it again. Back to the dealer, he double checked the throttle body and discovered it was still dirty inside so he removed it and cleaned it. At the same time he noticed the intercooler pump was not pumping and thought maybe that could be causing the issue so I called Super Charger Online and ordered a pump. At the same time I told Brian what was going on and he said it was probably the vacuum cap on the back of the J-Tube but I don’t have a cap on the back, just 3 hoses that appear to be fine. Then he stated that it was probably the vacuum cap on the back side of the manifold so I replaced that. He also said that he does not believe the rough idle issue has anything to do with the intercooler. BTW, both times they hooked up the tech tool and couldn’t find anything out of the norm because it ran fine while there. I also took the tech for short rides and it ran fine so I thought all was well. Anyhow, 2 days later it appears to be running fine but at times it feels like the idle is a little rough but not real bad but that’s kind of the way it acted before. Its driving me crazy, what else should I check?
  17. Bump, gotta be some Dale Jr fans out there that these will fit.
  18. Cant figure out how to edit my post. Email me at [email protected]
  19. Up for sale is the stock grill, in great condition, that was on my 2005 Chevy Silverado VHO. Does not include a bow tie, as can be seen in the picture. Not sure what years it will fit but I know that it will fit 2003-2005. I really prefer local pickup in Ridgecrest California because I dont know how much it would cost to ship and I really dont have the time to pack it up right to make it UPS proof. $100.00 picked up, prefer cash or Paypal as a gift but if not as a gift then add 3% to cover fees. More pictures available upon request.
