03TNSSS
Ok I've heard people saying our trucks have a 4L65E in them and visa-versa. I'd just like to know what trans I have so I can buy a shift kit. Is there any difference between the two trannys? Any difference between the two shift kits? Please help!! Lol! ...BTW I have a 2003 SS AWD. Edited November 7, 2008 by 03TNSSS (see edit history)
Fireman31
You have a 4L65E.......look at the production codes in your glove box, you will have an M32 there which represents a 4L65E.
12'SROCK
main difference in the shift kits is the boost valve that is shorter in the 06'-07' SSS (4L65E) compared to the pre 06' SSS, most of the things you order are going to be referenced to the 60E trans though
Fireman31
Most shift kits will say 4L60/65/70E since they are all virtually the same thing(subtle/minor differences)......
kelleyperformance
although the valve body may not be too different... i beg to differ on the 70e's difference. im STILL rocking a shift-kitted, servoed stock stock 70e with 550 whp
misterp
VERY IMPORTANT for those in the torque converter market: the front pump was redesigned on the 4L70E and the converter for the 4L70E IS NOT interchangeable with a 60-65E converter, the hub depth on the 70E converter is shorter and will not totally engage the pump tangs in a 65E. 03TNSSS
Thanks alot guys! I can really use this info to make a better decision on my purchases! LOL! So in all reality the 60/65e shift kits are the same?..
js_silveradoSS
VERY IMPORTANT for those in the torque converter market: the front pump was redesigned on the 4L70E and the converter for the 4L70E IS NOT interchangeable with a 60-65E converter, the hub depth on the 70E converter is shorter and will not totally engage the pump tangs in a 65E. Mr. P. The only difference in the pump is the introduction of an input speed sensor. It is on the back side of the pump and reads off the reluctor on the input shaft. All the trucks with LS based motors use the big (300mm) stator now. The converters are the same from 60/65/70 in the trucks. Corvette use the small input (276mm) like the old 700R4. With any aftermarket torque converter you should check the distance you got to pull the torque converter foward to bolt it up. 1/8 in is the most u want. BigCountry
didn't all the SSSs have a 4L65? I thought the RWDs came with a 70, but I've got the M32 (65)
