Having Problems After Cam Swap

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. I installed my new cam and ported/polished 317 heads yesterday. When I cranked it up, it would only idle at about 450 rpms, which causes it to shut down alot, when it is in drive. Also, the check engine light came one because of a "random cylinder misfire" code. Every time we clear the code out, it pops back up after a period of time. Is this common, if your pcm is not tuned properly? It seems like the pcm is trying to adapt, but that the change is too much for it to compensate. I have a custom tune that is programmed for my old cam. Maybe I just need to have it updated? Thanks a lot.

In an interesting twist, I just replaced my tuned pcm with my stock pcm and it is no longer throwing a code, but it is still idling low. I'm going to try sending my tuned pcm back to Charlie Wheatley to have him work his magic. Thanks for the response brobradh77!
