ThePDB
My wife and I have family in Irvine California. We've both been talking about taking a vacation, but wasn't sure where. My family has been asking us to come out for quite some time, so were thinking of California. I was wondering if you guys could give me some ideas of what we DEF. have to check out while were in So Cal. We will rent a car so we will have transportation. Were thinking of going for about a week or so. Thanks in advance!!!
wishminewasanss
Well do you have any kids? Disneyland is a must! And from irvine its soo closeby. For you and the wife go out and have dinner to either Pasadena, in one of the fine pubs, then dinner. So many places to choose from. Huumm.....Santa Monica is always a good attraction, walk the boardwalk. Or just spend a day or afternoon at the beach! The weather isn't the best rite now for the beach, but it depends when your planning to come out here. There are soo many things to do out here, and there many soCal members and I know they'll chime in with some better ideas, these are some of mine. Hope you guys have fun out here! Oh yeah Hollywood is awesome too! ,Jaime

It's easier to hear suggestions from you guys, as opposed to some website.

ces63ss
lets see, lets make a list for you: 1. old town san deigo is very nice and the food there (Mexican) is very good. 2. while in san deigo, you can go to either or both Sea world and san deigo zoo. Dont go south of the border. 3. Disneyland like mentioned. 4. Santa Monica beach 5. Venice beach (all the weird stuff is their). 6. Hollywood 7. Universal studios boardwalk for a good walk in the evening. 8. A nice drive up the coast is always great. there is so much to see In Kamifornia. enjoy
diggerdan11
Even without kids disneyland is a must. It does not matter if your 7 or 70 disneyland is a place you can feel like a kid and its ok to act like one. Also san diego is not that far away so the zoo is good to and sea world. Universal studios is good too.

My family is in Irvine, like I said... but we definitely plan on checking out San Diego and LA. I'm most certainly not planning on going south of the border! Too much crazy crap going on there!! I'm usually not that excited about Vacations, but the last time I was in CA I was 4... so it's time for a visit. I'm super excited.

Tzer
Damn Dood. I don't even know where to begin. If your doing only a week you got to figure what you and your wife enjoy best. Beings your visiting family I'm taking it that you'll be stayting with them most of if not every evening? They might have the week planned out for you with a lot of the above mentioned already... Some mentioned HOLLYWOOD.. Yea it's something to see. But go at NIGHT (The Later The Better). LOL. then you can say you've seen HOLLYWOOD.. Whoa!! In the daytime it's just a tourist trap. Night time it comes alive and no words can explane it because every step can bring on something different. LOL Other then the above posts you can also... - Go Ocean Fishing ½ day boat. It's a blast. - Take a boat ride to Catalina Island. (not much to do there but eat, drink & shop, But the boat ride might be something you'd like). I've done the boat ride a few times and I was looking into taking a helicopter ride to the Island. Only because I've never been in a helicopter There is just so much to do That's why I said. Figure out what you and your wife enjoy the most and plan around that. We'll be their around the 4th of July. So it's Surf and Sand for us.. And don't forget In & Out Burger. Yea yea! Thanks guys for all your suggestions! I actually had my first inn & out burger experience last May in Vegas. I always heard how good the burgers were and I've actually been to Vegas 3 times. It was the 3rd time when I noticed they had one just west of the strip.
zanis520
when are u planning on coming out? cause that can really limit what ur doing. CA always has beautiful weather, but if u come out before May, you probably wouldnt go to the beach. Disneyland is a must, Knotts is ehhh i only go there in october when they have all the monsters and scary mazes. Hollywood is cool at night like others have mentioned. Dont expect to see celebrities everywhere you go though. for some reason everyone thinks that they just walk around. movies and tv arent even filmed in hollywood, they're filmed in studio city/ burbank. speaking of which you could get tickets for the tonight show with leno if you're out here before he goes off the air, thats always fun. I'm guessing it's going to be late March or early April when we come. Nothing is set in stone- other than I know I can't be gone if there is a chance of snow here at home. Eddie
On way down to San Deigo check out Temecula. It's like a little Napa Valley. You can take a tour where a bus drives you to i think about 8 wineries to go wine tasting. They average 6 to 7 glass of wine per winery. So to can get trashed and your wife will have fun too. nxtnlne
Disneyland is cool we has season passes but if you like roller coasters I would recommend Six Flags Magic Mountain most def. Hollywierd is alright to drive thru and check out the weirdos but thats about it. You could say you seen the sign. LOL. Santa Monica Pier is usaually crowded with your assorted groups of punk kids and gang bangers. Atleast thats how it was last time we went. I would take P.C.H all the way up or down the coast though it is a must do your homwork on the directions though. I would take PCH to Ocean Blvd and do a drive through downtown Long Beach over the bridges through the Port of L.A/L.B into San Pedro around the coast into Palos Verdes right by Donald Trumps Golf corse into Redondo thru to Hermosa on to Venice then to Santa Monica!!!.. Redondo beach peir has some cool little bars and some outdoor sea food spots. They have a huge speed boat that holds like 30 people if you like that sort of thing. Same goes for Bar row at Hermosa Beach. San Diego is really nice but Im not from there so Ill let someone else chime in on that. PM me if you come out this way!
