bikeman311 Posted June 8, 2009 Report Share Posted June 8, 2009 Ok washed and detailed my truck last night and added a can of seafoam to the tank, I go to start up the truck and nothing happens. After a jump the truck starts and idels at 500-600rpm but once i put it in gear it drops to 400-200rpm and stalls half the time the volt meter also will go down as well before it stalls. Tday i go to the auto parts store and the batery is checked and comes confirms its toast so I put a new one in and the same thing???? Just before the new battery it threw a CEL , I dont know the code but the guy said it was all four O2 sensors. So what should I do, I'm going to start w/ cleaning the MAF ( this was done 3-4 months ago) and after this is it the alternator? and is there any way to check the alternator w/o taking it off and if so is this easy to change, never done it b4, thanks guys. I If it is the alternator i know its only a few bolts but how do you get the belt on/off and tight again do i need a special tool? Its and 03 so should i go w/ a 105 or 145 amp if i replace it ? Dose the 145amp need a different size belt ? If you don't want to take the alt off to have it tested.. Remove the possitive battery cable. Your truck should drop it RPM.. idle a little rougher, however it should stay running if the alt is working correctly and producing. if the truck quits right away, your alt is not charging. NO special tools are needed to remove one. I would venture to guess its a dirty MAF or idle sensor--clean both, or vaccum leak before the TB.
