Need Help On New Project. 2dr Sss

Hello everyone. Just thought I would finally post instead of always reading. Going to be starting a new project soon, and am looking for a little direction on which route to go. Already have a 03' SS and love it. Wanting to build a 2dr version though for a little more fun.

I already have most of the parts to go AWD, or t56 6speed 2wd. The enigine is a 2002 ls1 with some things done to it. It put down 430ish at the wheels when it was in my camaro. This is how I have the 6speed, clutch, and other misc parts to go that route. I also have a spare 4l60e/x-case out of a 04' Sss so I could go that route if I wanted.

The debate is do I go for a 2wd tire frier that gets descent mpg for cruising the Hwy in 6th, or another AWD beast for the track?? Not really looking for the typical do you have the ability, money, and questions of that nature that get asked. Just an open pros/cons and what would be cool to thread.

Thanks in advance.

Def a baddass project! It would be easier to leave it 2wd and have the t56, but if it were me I would turn it into a 4wd beast. I wouldn't use the setup on an SS with cv joints, but fab up a Dana front diff. I personally like solid front axles. It would be some work, but doable, but I would also mount up the t56 to a t-case and have a m6 4wd street killer. It would all just cost more money and more work, but you would def have a custom setup!

AWD with the 6 speed would be awesome, but there is noway to mount the t-case to that tranny. The only way to do it would be to go with a divorced case, and that would be a bigtime PITA. 4.56 rear gears, 285/50/r20's with the .50 od of the t56 would only put me at 1900 or so rpm's at 75mph. Dayum!!!! That would be alot of fun on the hwy!!!! Just to see the jaws drop on the car crowd when they try to jump on you at high speeds would be awesome!!!!

I know it is a lot of work, but I think the reward is well worth it. If you have the time and money....go for it

Thanks for all the replies. T56 is the way I'm leaning right now. My wife is trying to get me to put the ls1 into my truck since it is basically new. Would not be a bad thing because then I could stroke the 6.0l and slap it into the other truck with the 6speed. :D I have a Textralia oz700 so I'm not too worried about the clutch. May have to end up upgrading the rear end, and tranny down the road though. Doubt it would like the weight, and power. I am not going to like driving it in the rain though.

Did find this on another forum. Looks to be as easy as swapping the t56 into my camaro. Maybe even easier.
