Lsx 454?

Recommended Posts

So I am contemplating putting in a new LSX 454. The original 6.0L has a hole in the oil pan I can stick my hand through. Maybe had something to do with the Paxton supercharger feeding it 8 pounds of boost to go along with all the other mods. Now my question is besides the obvious like motor mounts and my computer getting re-programmed what else am I going to have to change to make the LSX 454 work? I should be able to get away with just changing my housing on my tranny. Any body know anyone who has done an overheaul like this?

See part of the problem is I bought this truck with so many mods already done I don't even know what's in there. I was told it had a large camshaft, it has upgraded aluminum heads and headers. It hit the dyno and put's out 581HP. Motor only had 93,000 km. Not sure what that is in miles, around 60,000 or so. My fly wheel was cracked and had that replaced, maybe an early warning sign. Tell me what you guys think, should I drop a 6.0L back in there and try it again, maybe the LSX427 or the LSX454? I want to be able to get around 600hp out of this girl. But i'm not a millionaire, and I don't want to spend a year building.

600hp with the blower? If so take the block and go .030" over if it won,t find another good block. Use the factory 3.622" crank (370cid)or a aftermarket 4" crank(408). Throw in some good rings and pistons and you can easily hit your goal.

I am assuming your talking about the 6.0L. Well a new crated 6.0L from gm is $5100.00 CDN. But I don`t want to drop the 6.0L crate in there unless I know it`s going to be able to handle 600hp. If I blew up another engine, someone would be stealing my truck and it would never be found again lol.

Rebuild the 6.0 you have now. For the price of the crate you can rebuild it stronger and more powerful.

What all did you mess up in the motor?

Well I shot a rod through the oil pan. Haven`t taken it apart to look yet, but it can`t be pretty. I was just thinking if the LSX 427 or 454 would be easy enough to install, and besides the engine costing me a fortune everything else wasn`t to bad it sure would be nice to drop a shiny LSX in there. But then again, money is a little issue, and I don`t like having to lie to my wife about how much I spent on my toy....again lol.

For the hp goals you are looking for, and in the money position, you are def better off stroking and rebuilding your motor if it is salvageable

Alright, thanks guys I really appreciate it. Maybe the LSX will be a future mod I will make to the truck. As for the paxton, should I put it back on, I heard they make awesome superchargers, but I really can`t figure out why the motor blew so soon.
