smallblock500
So I was at the exhaust shop getting an exhaust put on my truck today and walked up under it while on the lift. That is when I found a few rather odd leaks on my t-case. I've never seen oil leak through solid metal so I snapped a pic of it with my phone to post up here. in the pis is just one of the "leaks" but their are a few others next to it. None of whitch are around any seals or shafts or bolts or anything like that they are all on the side of the case that should not be leaking right? See pic and do tell what you think might have caused this. PS: the truck does not leak anything from anywhere but a little dampness on the front diff out put. streatsboy
Pretty sure it's just normal. Mine looks damp too... Just check your fluid every oil change and you'll be fine

cadillacbob
See my other posts... Leaking from one of the raised bosses near the top of the tail shaft extention on the transfer case should be watched... MOST pin hole leaks are on the passengers side...mine was on the drivers side... As I was a little low on cash, I have been topping my case off every other day...which ruined the fill plug threads...I had to 'back half' the case anyways, so I just loaded up the plug with teflon tape... A powertrain specialist who designs/tests/fixes these things said it is a fairly common problem in vehicles with between 75-100k, but generally closer to 100k... I have 160k on my truck now... In fact I pulled the case last night and it is getting fixed today... yours looks normal...BUT the pinhole leak will leaves drips on your driveway...and you will lose about 1 quart every 80 miles or so depending on your speed...just my .02 Edited March 5, 2010 by cadillacbob (see edit history)
