phreak
today my ss has developed a clunking noise i'm hoping someone on here might have some insight as to what's going on. whenever i turn the wheel to the left and then back to center, i hear/feel a clunk sound coming from under the driver's side area. its not there while turning left, only when i bring the wheel back to center. turning to the right and back to center doesn't do it. only to the left. i've noticed it, as well, while driving straight over bumpy roads. a starting point as to where to look would be a great help. thanks... 70chevy03ss
Get under the truck and grab the torsion bar/bars. I bet that is your CLUNK. the bushings are shot. I still have to replace mine!!! Good luck
phreak
thanks for the quick response. it wasnt doing it this morning. a guy i work with used to be a mechanic and he got under and yanked on the torsion bar. he said it seemed pretty tight. he's going to try and bring in a jack and take a look at if for me tomorrow. hopefully its something simple. firehawknwv
Im thinkning it could also be the notorious noise from our steering that many of us get. If its not those bushings and you cant find it anywhere elese it may be this. You can help it out by ubolting the knuckle in your stering shaft and slide the upper shaft in and out a few times. Some guys have referred to this in other posts as jerking their truck off, lol.
thomp62301
Intermediate steering shaft. Every Silverado I have or have had has been replaced. GM actually has a upgraded replacement.
