Best Upgrades On My Truck

What are the best first few performance upgrades on my truck? I'm thinking headers, cam, and possibly a little head work once I have it paid off but for right now I'm stuck with just really cheap stuff or things I can do myself. Also, any other tips/tricks to help my truck?

I just don't have any money right now and hate having my two buddy's with their tundras tearing me up!

I don't have one (yet) but from what I've seen a good tune (wheatley I believe is the preferred tuner here) and intake can give you a bit more ponies/tq

I would also say do a complete tune up, maybe a good header later down the road when you have more available funds. Or save up for rear mounted turbo! I'm thinking of going this route myself.

Any price ideas on the tune? I just did new spark plugs/wires and dropped a Spectra filter in my stock box and might cuz a few small holes in the bottom of the airbox for now.

About the turbo, I've got an idea for a custom set-up I wanna try out once it's paid off, sucks to have another project truck to pay off too banghead.gif

Custom tune FTW!

Dyno tune or a tune from one of the guys off the site? I'm thinking a dyno tune be best? Wouldn't mind waiting until I get some more upgrades to do a tune unless I can get it extremely cheap so I don't have to pay it twice.

This question is asked alot so you can find a lot of information using the search function inthe upper right section of the screen. For the most part the best starting mods are a CAI, shift kit, and a custom tune. For the custom tune look at either Black Bear or Wheatley, much better than a handheld programable tune. Wheatley has a link on the main page, email him he is really good about getting back to you. I don't know much about Black Bear but I am sure they are just as good. After that, it depends on how far you want to go and what you have planned for the truck. Good luck with the build.

IMO, getting a street tune (someone rides in/drives your truck) or a dyno tune is the best way to go. Having it done in person allows the tuner to see what your truck is really doing/how it's running before tuning it and allows for the best adjustments to your tune.

You also can't go wrong with any of the tuners here on this site (some of the best out there)dbanana.gif

I believe you will have a better experience getting the tune from wheatley (possibly cheaper as well). Unless you live in an area like so-cal where there a good deal of performance shops it is better (imho) to get a tune from a specialist like wheatley. I have done this now on 2 vehicles (Svt cobra and Svt focus) from a special tuner online and had absolutely no complaints. When I dyno'd the cobra it had a better readout than all of the other vehicles with different tunes (this was a base tune). Also I can't personall speak for wheatley but most of the specialized tuners will custom tune or re-tune your vehicle for a good deal less than others. So lets say you add a turbo he will be the best option to re-tune the vehicle. Good luck with your SSS. I can't wait to get mine. Anyone wanna buy a jeep lol ?

I like my blackbear tune. Gained milage. Im sure weatley is good as well. Also another cheap upgrade is a 160 t stat. That will help out with the tune.

Also you said cheap upgrades. Well how cheap??? What are your goals???

You need to go for a street tune. There isn't alot of shops around that have an AWD dyno that can support these trucks.

Start with a CAI and custom tune, and yes, Charlie Wheatley is the go to guy IMO, you'll be amazed how much more responsive and powerful your truck feels, and the hidden potential that is brought out. Next, when you are ready, take the next step and go with some long tube headers, shift kit, servos, and a stall(if you have the $$$).

I plan on trying for the tune at least for now, all the listed stuff I agree is cheap, but not until I get it paid off... $100 or less is what I call cheap now lol and the stupid stealership just ripped me off an extra $550 after paperwork was signed!!

I hate car stealerships. :freak: A CAI and Wheatley tune will help you give those ugly swine of a truck Tundras a run for their money. :peelout:
