Well everyone, I have been a member on this forum for a long time. I was not the most active member but I have really enjoyed all of the great advice and chats on here. However, after 8 years and almost 100,000 miles, I have traded the SS in on a Z71 Tahoe. I will miss the SS and hopefully later I will be able to get another one, if they every release new ones, or maybe buying an old one and restoring it. I am sure I will still be lurking around and throwing my 2 cents in every now and then. Until then, drive safe and enjoy every mile.

Welcome to the site. I am wondering if you are one of the three other SSS that I have seen running around here in the last week. If you see a black 03 SSS it is probably me running around San Antonio.

This just proves that just because you CAN does not mean you SHOULD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! poor truck, I bet it was a decent truck in its previous life.

This question is asked alot so you can find a lot of information using the search function inthe upper right section of the screen. For the most part the best starting mods are a CAI, shift kit, and a custom tune. For the custom tune look at either Black Bear or Wheatley, much better than a handheld programable tune. Wheatley has a link on the main page, email him he is really good about getting back to you. I don't know much about Black Bear but I am sure they are just as good. After that, it depends on how far you want to go and what you have planned for the truck. Good luck with the build.

I am in replacing the braking on my truck as well. I had not looked at your second option yet, but I have been told that the Powerslot rotors work well and that the EBC 3GD rotors work well also. I am considering the EBC route myself. Good luck with the decision.

So it is time to replace stock parts with better parts. I have already dropped 2/2 and added the K&N. The next project is stopping. I would love to put on the biggest and baddest big brake kit but right now I need to stay within the subtle/practicle realm. I was thinking about replacing the rotors with either Bear or Powerslot rotors and using Hawk break pads. I have read through many of the old posts but was wondering if anyone had any serious problems with either of these rotors. Suggestions are always appreciated.

I have the Bak Flip cover. It sits very flat and is very reasonabley priced. I was thinking about getting a Pace Edwards but the guy at 4 Wheel Off Road Performance sold me on this one. Much cheaper and installed it myself. No complaints what so ever.

I had the same problem. Come to find out there was a recall on the speed sensor (or something to that effect) on my truck. I have an 03 SSS and the stealership had to run my VIN to see if it was covered in the recall. Fortunately the part was, unfortunately the labor wasn't covered. It might be worth stopping by your local stealership and finding out if your truck is covered under this one.

Does anyone know of a reliable transmission place in or near San Antonio, Texas?

Thanks for the replies. I had a feeling that these people were trying to take me to the cleaners. I will just go with the shift kit, ect..., and for go the overhaul.

Welcome to the site. I have an 03 as well, over 85,000 miles that I have put on it and still love it as my daily driver. There is a lot of great information on the site. Use the search button often, it leads to most of the answers that have already been asked a thousand times. What mods have been added? Post up some pics of the ride.

So I have a little over 85,000 miles on my 03 SSS and I called a transmission place in San Antonio yesterday to get a quote on a basic transmission overhaul and adding a Transgo shift kit, servos, and converter. Is $2200 - $2300 too much for all of this? I am somewhat mechanically inclined but I do not want to monkey with my transmission since it is also my DD. Any input would be appreiciated, I want the work to be done correrctly but I don't want to get taken to the cleaners. I also asked what the price would be to replace the transmission with a 4L80E and they said this could not be done, the 4L80E would not have the proper conectors and would not be compatible with the computer. Again any input would be appreciated.

I didn't realize it was in the wrong section, I guess it would have helped to put it in the transmission secition. It has been a rough week. It only makes the sound when I have my foot on the break and shift into reverse. I will start with getting the U joint checked and go from there. Thanks for the tips.

Just a quick question for the group. I noticed that there is a loud metallic clunk when I shift into reverse. I have a little over 85,000 miles on the truck with no major work on the transmission. It doesn't make the same noise when I shift into any other gear. I apologize in advance it this has been asked before. Any suggestions would be helpful.

So someone broke into my truck in Houston and stole my Kenwood stereo. This was done by professionals, they pried the back passenger window off and crawled through the little window. The good thing is that the damage was minimal and they only got a few other things inside but it still very much angers me. Does anyone know how to make it harder to pop that back window off? I am getting a Viper alarm put in this weekend. Any advice would help.

I have a Bakflip Tonneau cover and I love it. It isn't the "sport" tonneau but I use my truck as a truck. It is a low profile, tri-fold cover that took me all of about 10 minutes to install by myself. The reason I went with this one over the Pace Edwards was because it cost a lot less. No complaints so far.

Chopping the top, removing the bed, lowering it, putting shag carpet in the cab, and putting Gold 10 inch rims on?

$30,000 and $39.500???????? These people are on CRACK!!!!!! Way over priced for the first one and I guess putting a bunch of labels on a truck makes it more marketable. The sad thing is that someone out there is going to be broke and even more broken hearted when they find out that there is no such things as an "SS 4X4 Intimidator MAX". Some people just need to be smacked. Just my opinion.

So I had an unfortunate run in with the corner of my garage and am now currently looking for a reputable place to get my truck repainted in San Antonio, Texas. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Also I was thinking about maybe trying to get a black metal flake similar to the Black Pearl paint on my Harley. Any thoughts on this idea?
