CodeRed
Hey guys, I tried doing a search on here but couldnt find my answer. I have a set of silverado SS wheels on my colorado. but the paint has started to flake off of all 4 center caps. I'm thinking there wasn't enough flex additive in the paint on them or what not. Have other had this issue? I prices new centers through GM parts direct but yeah not for 107 a piece. and I did search ebay and found a set I may buy. Any thoughts? Are there any after market centers that are metal and not plastic so they won't flex much?
Cramer
One of mine is flaking too. I have not heard of any other styles of centercaps other than the plastic ones. I was looking for some too because I was going to powdercoat my wheels and wanted the center caps to match. I got some wheel paint from Napa that looks to be close in color to the original so i'm going to try painting the centercaps and if there is a big difference I will paint the rims too. Blacksss06
Sweet Colorado... Is the center caps painted part peeling? Because on mine the chrome inner section is corroding on the edges and looks nasty, Is this part chrome or plastic thats chromed?
Crusinsilverado
First let me say that that is one WICKED looking beast you have. How bad is the peeling on your cap's? Can you post some pics because if its only peeling paint you can easily repair that yourself. For 107 for a new one thats just a rip off. I just redid all the wheels on my Silverado as the clear was peeling and the edges were becoming weathered. and they looked like crap. Cost me 30 bucks to do all 4 wheels. you only have centers Post pic so i can see maybe i can help you out and explain how you can fix them up. If your wondering what experience i have, i spent 25 years in the auto body trade and yes plastic can be repainted. its all in the prep. You can possibly repair all 4 caps for 40 bucks or less. CodeRed
Hey guys sorry I've never replied. A colorado friend of mine was supposed to send me a set of centers but he ended up having other things come up, he was going to give them to me for free and plus since it was becoming winter I took the wheels off for the season so I wasn't in a hurry. I'm trying to see if he still has them now however Yes I considered painting them but then again I did find these replica ones for 60 bucks for the set http://www.tulipcitywheels.com/tcwstore/index.php?l=product_detail&p=572 I think I looked at a replica set before and they are a bit sturdier plastic so I shouldn't have to worry about them peeling. as far as pics of the centers I'll take one when I get home today
