Muffler Question?

Craigles

Recommended Posts

stock SSS mufflers are actually di/do with a small y-pipe connecting the muffler outlets to the stock tail pipe. here are a few mufflers that will work with little/no fab work necessary, just depends on how loud you want it...smaller=louder obviously! cheers.gif

On my truck back when i was still running stock manifolds and cats i had two of these... http://www.magnaflow...ne=main&id=9099 ...welded in place of the stock muffler and it sounded absolutely amazing to me! I can dig up a sound clip for you if youre interested. Now with long tubes and ORY im running a 5x11x22 case muffler that is a lot quieter with a cutout. It all just depends on how loud you want it but those two round 4x14 mufflers were perfect to me with the stock exhaust.

You can also find these mufflers MUCH cheaper, I can send you a link in a PM where I bought mine...not sure how the mods would like me posting it in the thread but Im always willing to help a fellow member save some cash.

I am just looking for a cheap way out...I am doing a broke man's modification. I just got my truck and I already bought a aem brute force cai and can't afford a whole exhaust system. I am simply looking for a deeper tone. I believe the stock SS's should sound meaner but they dont! I was thinking a magnaflow muffler swap would do the trick and keep the stockers? thanks for the reply though even though I didnt think anyone would respond. Is the SS 2.5" DO/DO or 3"?

The ss pipes are 2.75. I think I went with the magnaflow 3" dual in dual out. Don't look at the stock ss pipes as being bad. With a new muffler welded in I think they flow better then some aftermarket kits. For most na trucks I wouldn't recommend getting rid of the stock pipes, they support great power and that money can be used for other, better, mods

here is a pic of the stock muffler. it's really a DI/SO the short pipe in the drivers side is a resonator chamber, not the best pic of it. seeing this, i know why people are noticing a big improvident with a straight thru design muffler...

i don't have the receipt anymore for the muffler but i found the labor charge, 100 bucks to cut the old one out, modify the pipes a bit for the new muffler and then weld the muffler in.

just measure your stock muffler and compare it to the ones on the magnaflow website

Damn, 100 bucks just to weld in a new muffler? I think it only cost me 50 or so when I got my first magnaflows put on. In my honest opinion, go with 2 of these http://www.planetmagnaflow.com/shop/magnaflow-14419-392.html Nice deep rumble at idle and loud and throaty at WOT. Little to no resonance in the cab and I think you'll enjoy the sound and performance over the stock exhaust. Then save up for a custom PCM tune and you'll be a much happier SSS owner! I'll post a sound clip of mine with those mufflers, stock manifold and cats and stock tail pipe in a minute.

yes, perfectly legal, never cracked or popped up in the RPMs or even when slowing down. those ARE considered mufflers/resonators and are NOT straight pipes...i cannot stand the way straight pipes sound unless the cutout is open :P flow monster is just a knock off version of a magnaflow and i dont believe they make a round muffler, only oval shaped.

My mufflers are actually the round tube type. I have 2 mufflers on my truck. They do have them in the round tube type if thats what you want. Give Marty Jr a call and see what he has. He will make you good deal. I love mine and get alot of compliments on the sound and they will let that 6.0 breath better. I forgot what the CFM's were on these mufflers but it was almost triple of what a flowmaster could put out. Want to say it was over 1000 cfm's. Give him a call and see if he can hook you up. He can get you Magnaflow if thats what your stuck on but you want be disappointed in the flowmonsters. Hell flowmosters are magnaflows but without the magnaflow name and price. Here's his number. 1-731-587-0669. Tell him Chris sent you and tell him you are a member of the Silveradoss club. Now get to shopping. G/L. Chris

I decided to go with two 4" round magnaflow mufflers. My welder charged me 50 plus tax to put them in and it sounds mean and loud...Now I need to better Intake. Any Suggestions? I am looking at Volant and AEM or K & N...I havent heard much rave about AEM so its closer to Volant. Anyone wanna chime in?
